I create letterpress greeting cards and sometimes wedding invitations and personalized stationery.

This is a tough one, but after thinking about it, I'd have to say being a mom. I thought of something career-wise, but nothing would be as important as being a good mom to my kids. I have such a short time to make an impact on their lives and for them to actually want to hang out with me! So maybe once they're older and out of the house I'd have a different answer, but for now, it's the thing I really don't want to mess up.

After college I worked for a commercial printer. I would suggest it for any designer out of college. I learned so much about the printing process and prepping files for print. After that I worked for a small firm that did a lot of web and interactive work. I was more interested in print and began exploring ideas of what to do next. That's when I discovered letterpress and began learning about it for probably a year before I left that company. Funny side note, the firm was in an old victorian house and the basement was full of letterpress equipment from when the firm first started. It was right under my nose all along! Great question.

My motto in life has always been to never give up. Ever. I'll throw everything I have at a goal until its reached. That's how I approached starting a stationery business. I read, researched and learned everything I could before I even got started. I'm still learning.
I guess that's a long way of saying...do your research and know what it takes and figure out if you're willing and ready to do it.
My advice to stay in the business is advice that I need to take myself, and that's to be committed to it. I currently freelance and run a stationery business and I'm beginning to feel torn because I love them both. But my business is sort of at a turning point where I need to put more attention to it, or it's going to go stagnant.
Guess that was a long answer, so in short. Research and commit. Thanks for the question!

My first thought is I wish I had more of a personal style...fashion-wise. I've always been a classic kind of girl, but not too preppy. I love a good cardigan and white collared shirt with black patent leather flats. I think my design style is similar. Clean, straight lines and sans-serif type.

One of my favorite childhood memories is visiting the beach in Maine. We've been going there since I was a baby with my extended family. The coastal town where we stay is beautiful. Being at the ocean is probably my favorite place to be. I've been taking my kids there the past few years and sharing it with them. Hopefully it will be some of their favorite memories as well.

You're so cute Fiona! When I really stop and think, I'm a lucky girl already. That's a cop out answer though, so I would have to say time. I would love for the world to stop, no emails, no calls, no responsibilities, just time where I wasn't allowed to work or do chores around the house. There just aren't enough moments of guilt-free time with the kids and family. My laptop-free vacation next week should help!

I must say, I'm a big fan of TV and movies. I don't get to see movies as often as I used to. But, for TV, some of my favorites are Lost, House, Gilmore Girls (reruns), and a guilty pleasure...Real Housewives of Orange County, they make me thankful I don't have a ton of money!

I started out making cards just for fun and realized I would love to design them on a larger scale and sell them. So, I began researching card companies, all different kinds, trying to figure out what owning a card company would require. In that research I fell in love with letterpress. The cards were unique and had beautiful texture. I was hooked on starting a card line and letterpress. I spent probably a year researching and reading everything I could about letterpress. I bought a table top press to start and spent hours and hours putting that research to work. I took a class from a veteran printer, I also connected with a local printer who offered to critique my printing and give me tips.

During that time I was looking for a larger press and one became available for FREE...as long as I could move it. Which, if you have a 900lb press...you know that's the hardest part. It took a couple tries, but eventually we used a crane to lift the press out of a basement and swung it around to the front of the house onto a truck. It makes me sweat just thinking about it again!

Good question! Wish I had a good answer! I am obsessed with green and I also have always liked stars for some reason. I actually thought of the star in the clover first, and then decided on the name. And, to be honest...there was also that great Madonna song that sealed the deal.
