Sorry about taking a little while to answer this, I haven't been keeping a very close eye on Formspring. It seems to have died down a bit, alas. I hope you're prepared for a lot of blahblahblah here! :|

Anyway, almost all of the more advanced technology present in RMR (the radios, televisions and the like) has been invented in and is almost entirely limited to Ashul. There's a massive technological divide between Ashul in the north and Imara in the south - Ashul is experiencing an approximation of the Industrial Revolution (some of it enhanced by magic), whereas Imara is closer to a Renaissance level of tech.

Most of Ashul's tech was invented by the military with specific motives - mostly war or propaganda. To add to that, Ashul is fiercely protective of its technological advantage, with dire penalties for those who are caught leaking information or technology to another nation, while the Imarans consider it a crutch and perhaps a sign of stunted spirituality. They've historically tried technology trades in the past - bits of tech (things like cameras and rudimentary steam engines, as was shown in the comic) for some of the many luxury goods available in Imara, but it's often ended badly, with the Imarans being distrustful of the unusual technology, and the Ashulites being too aggressive or insensitive towards the Imarans' sometimes overly-intricate customs.

It basically comes down to differing opinions on magic - Ashulites see it as a tool while Imarans see it as a divine gift, and it's been a point of contention for centuries. It's important for different reasons, but fortunately for the Imarans, they have a massive population advantage, and therefore a greater number of magic-wielding citizens.

Ashul is more like an overblown city-state - it's situated in hilly country that's boxed in with mountains and swamplands, but it's used its advantages in communications and travel to expand outwards and take Rishara Caan - previously an unsuspecting and unassuming nation with lots of inherently conquerable arable land. This hasn't gone down well in Imara since they share a border with the now-occupied Rishara Caan and things have been a bit tense ever since.

Some bits and pieces of tech slip by the radar though - Rhea's radio is a good example of something that would've been directly taken from Ashulite soldiers. Guns, on the other hand, are a completely different affair. They've been overlooked by Ashul since hefting around something filled with highly flammable gunpowder is a ridiculous notion with so many fire mages running around, and most mages have that kind of firepower at their fingertips anyway. For people without magic it's a bit of a game changer, though. Stay tuned!

Lethe is actually a fair bit older than Adrianna (their specific ages are in a previous answer here somewhere) though their relationship ended up with her in a more assertive, older sister sort of role once they were both older. They have the same father, who was not a mage. Lethe's mother died when he was young, and Adrianna's mother ditched when she was a kid, so it's mainly been all about their dad who raised them both alone. As for which of Adrianna's parents was a mage, the answer is neither though there was probably something recessive inherited from her mother. Adrianna's just one of those (unfortunate?) genetic anomalies. It's not a common occurence, but it does happen.

Considering you asked this a month ago I suspect the relevent event is long, long over. So, er, sorry about that. D: I don't have much useful advice anyway, since the main comics I liked as a teenager (by Crossgen) are now probably out of print and didn't end in a very satisfactory manner anyway, since the company unceremoniously went out of business and was then bought up by Disney.

...anywayyy, I suppose just, uh... draw stuff you think is, uh, cool? Oh man, I have no idea how to talk to kids.

I think I already answered this in various levels of detail in previous answers, but I will once again shamefully admit I didn't do a whole lot of actual prep work until I had posted the second page and realised I had better get serious about this whole "webcomic" nonsense if I wanted to make a proper go of it.

One that varies from mediocre-to-rubbish with occasionally very poor customer support. I can't in good conscience recommend them.

This seems somewhat like I would have to bear the brunt of people's lack of knowledge of Irish pronunciation standards. How about I just kick a kitten out a window for every mispronunciation? Sounds good? Sounds good.

Not pushy, it's a fair question. :) Basically, I don't want to move back to twice a week until I have a buffer than can reasonably support the improved update schedule. Honestly, breaking my arm really threw me off my stride and I'm having trouble working as fast as I used to for whatever reason. I'm thinking that once this story arc finishes up (in maybe... 50 pages or so?) I might try changing up the art style to something I can produce more quickly, since I'm sure we'd all like to see more updates.

Soon, hopefully? The book will take a while, but I'm working on more general merchandise right now. Watch this spot. And by this spot, I mean my website. :|

Aaaactually, Texas Hold 'Em has already made an appearance in RMR: http://www.redmoonrising.org/archive/page-89/ No one was drunk while it was going on (probably) but I suspect if all the main characters got together, Danil would be a very rich man. Then fights would ensue.

    15. Rose Loughran

I sure do. :) It really depends on the style and finish you want, but if you email me with more info I can give you an accurate price. This sort of thing is best done over email regardless, since I don't check formspring anywhere near as often - sorry for the resulting delay!

I successfully got someone to ask what one of my characters smells of. I think I win at the internet.

      also he smells of oranges
