In answer to this as well as your subsequent question "I meant by saying how'd you get Asylum to be so popular?", I made Asylum Studios with the help of another former Re-Evo member, VivifxAMV (Katie) who left at the same time that I did. When we left, some people told us we were crazy, and so we decided, "Yes, we are crazy! And that's awesome! Let's go with it." We were very casual about the studio and had a lot of fun creating it. Taglines like "Crazy or GTFO" were originally a joke that we grew to love. The phoenix symbol we picked because it symbolized rebirth, which is what Asylum was for us. It was fortunate for us that around the same time we left Re-Evo, ELS ended, and we ended up with our first official members, anzu10694 (Vickie) and AzurexAMV (Vince). Once you get over the initial hump of finding a few talented members, the rest come pretty easily. We brought in every talented member that we could get our hands on, being very considerate of personality, too. The thing about making a studio is you have to be very careful with your standards. For instance, my members all use high-quality, subless animes, which is just expected of any talented AMV maker. However, I didn't want the studio to be obsessive over quality since what is most important is actual skill in editting.

What makes a studio popular is quality and recognition. Get your name out there with special intros, bgs, etc, and make MEPs that will attract attention to your studio channel. As the leader, you have to set an example for your other members. Though I am far from the most talented Asylum member, I do strive to only produce amvs that I feel reflect the level of quality expected from my studio.

Look, I comment on videos I like, just as anyone else would. I reply to PMs when the PM is worth replying to, that is if it's a PM from a friend, a question that I actually know how to answer, etc.

I'm a normal person with a life... I don't have time to respond to every "Hey" I get via PMs. I don't consider myself "higher" than other editors by any means. Everyone edits in their own style, so who am I to say that I'm better than other people? I just have time constraints, and can't respond to everyone who contacts me.
