did you have any problems before going through surgery? I also have an underbite, but unfortunately for me, my orthodontist said I couldn't go through with braces (that needs top be done before the surgery) because of my short roots. :(
I was fortunate enough not to have any prior complications. I had braces as a teenager, and my then-orthodontist prepped my mouth so I was surgery ready if I ever changed my mind. (At that time, I wasn't interested in having surgery.)
