Whenever I'm home alone I check out all the rooms for traces of the undead. Oh and on weekends I wake up late in the afternoon, if there's no sign of other people in the apartment I quickly assume that they've been attacked by zombies or have become zombies.
Plus there's the me seeing which household item would be a convenient anti-zombie weapon.
