I'd love to Yotsuba or even Azumanga Daioh but I think Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke would be something I'd love to see in a film / real life re-make. I dunno If I could be the director for it but my hope is to see live action tree spirits knocking their heads back and forth one day.

Sega vs. Nintendo = Hmmm. I've had a Sega Genesis, but never a Nintendo box. I've had a Gameboy though and now we have a Wii that just kinda sits there and collects dust. Nintendo.
Coke vs. Pepsi - Zevia. If I must drink one of those two I like Diet Pepsi better or Regular Coke classic. I rarely drink reg. drinks though. Been trying to not drink diet drinks as well....
Fruits vs. Vegetables - I like veggies more than fruits, although I will eat blueberries! Ask Audra!
Ernie vs. Bert - I always thought they were both kinda odd but as a kid I loved Ernie. I guess i had a softspot for the foot ball head?
Godzilla vs. King Kong - Fire throwing dino will always tromp all over a giant ape!
Marvel vs. DC - My first real comic book reading was in grade school with Green Lantern and Green Arrow. A friend and I both learned the Green Lantern creed by heart. Later it was the X-Men that really got me "into" comic books. I always liked Marvel a lot more than DC although I never really noticed the "difference" between the two brands. Most of my collection came from Marvel during that time: X-Men, Daredevil, Thor, Fantastic Four, etc... although I equally like DC titles like Teen Titans, Firestorm and Superman, Batman etc.
Color vs. B&W - if we're talking comics, I say both. Dave Sim's Cerebus really showed me at a young age what b/w comics could do. It made me want to be an inker (big dreams). For nemu*nemu, we have full color comics online but the books are BW just because of the cost. I guess if folks didn't mind paying about $5 more for the books we could do color. Maybe if we get a publisher to pick us up we can do full color. That would be awesome!
Land vs. Sea - Not interested in going on any boats for a cruise, or a 3 hour tour of any kind. Land is where it's at! -
I won't be getting one after I get one. If I do get one after I get one it will probably be because I've updated or got one for my grandparents.

Yes! I drew a comic strip called The Big Picture for a few years. It was really a slice of life type comic. It had a set of characters that were loosely based on people I knew. There was no real storyline per say or story arcs of any kind.
I tried to follow in the footsteps of folks I admired: Deb Aoki had her comic strip called Slice 'O Life during her University of Hawaii year and I was always a big fan of all of her other art projects she did around town. Jon Murakami had been doing University of Diverse City for a while and I quickly learned a lot from him.
Although I had been doing a comic strip since elementary school and on through highschool, I didn't put much thought into what I was going to do for my college comic. I just sorta decided I wanted to do one and I did. I had bought a manga called Winter Story by Hara Hidenori and was very attracted to his art style at the time. His art style was influential but eventually I tried to find my own way.
The comic didn't last long. College life and work caught up to me quickly and there really wasn't a good reason to spend 2-3 hours doing a comic strip for $5 each. -
I listen to radio on the way to work. Mostly to get up to date on what's going on in Hawaii and around the world, never for the music that they play. Traffic report is sometimes helpful, but because I live so close to work, there is almost never an issue.
On my morning runs I listen to San Francisco's Alice 97.3 with Sarah and Vinnie. They are really funny and it makes me feel like I'm living in SF if only just for a moment.
When I was younger (grade school) I'd listen to KIKI AM which was THE radio station. I knew every single DJ and their time slots. Music was harder to come by so the radio was how I'd learn / find new music. Those days are long gone.
At home, when I don't know what I want to listen to, I'll turn on Pandora or Audra will put on one of her favorite podcasts.. usually something from NPR. -
So is anyone looking forward to Toy Story 3? Do we really want to see something we love grow up?
Maybe.
The early previews made me wince. Andy is going to college and it seemed like the Toys were gonna be abandoned... or were they?
The doll (Dolly) is probably really sad that her owner grew up and probably gave her away or abandoned her. It's a sad thing to think about but it happens all the time. On the Island of Misfit Toys, all of them are abandoned or unloved right? All Dolly needs is someone who will love her... I think it's the same idea with Toy Story as well.
It may sound strange but I really don't like seeing the stuffed animals at garage sales or the neighborhood thrift store... -
It depends on what I'm doing. If I'm working on something like this, where I have to actually think about what I'm writing and it has to make sense, then I usually turn the music/tv off. Right now, CNBC is playing in my office but it's muted.
If I'm working on design stuff, I can have music playing. I usually find TV too distracting to have on while I'm actually doing work but music is OK. However, there are times I don't mind hearing a favorite movie playing in the background. I guess this is OK simply because I've watched the movie already so I know what's going to happen and it doesn't really pull my attention away from what I'm doing.
If i'm working on CSS/HTML code, I can usually have music or TV but it depends what it is I'm doing. If it's a complex script that needs to be figured out, then... no distractions.
Some folks can work with headphones on... I only like headphones when I'm on a plane, running or recording something. That said, I probably should get myself some nice speakers one day. -
Thanks for the question. I had to give this one some thought. The honest answer is: I know what I'd like to be doing 5 years from now but I'm not sure how or when it will happen. So many variables!
5 years from now I hope I'm working on nemu*nemu full time along with Audra. I believe there is solid growth potential for what we do but how and when is a different story. While I'd like to gripe about the economy being bad, etc, we're actually doing OK so far. I'd love for nemu*nemu to be published by a big publishing house and in color. And.... ummm... I hope to be 20 lbs lighter than I am now! LOL.
When I was younger, I think I would have been able to just drop everything and devote myself full time to this endeavor not really worry much about the outcome. Things are different now that I am married and have to think about things like medical insurance and how to pay bills. Yep, that's life... full of responsibilities right? I guess kids who want to grow up so quickly are rushing to.... bills? Hmmm...
That said, I do enjoy the folks I work with at my "real" job. The job is rewarding in different ways... ways that I wouldn't expect it to be. It can also be challenging as well, just as any job is.
Work hard and good things will come. Patience is learning to live. There is no failure in doing. -
I work at an elementary school so I see children everyday, however a lot of the dialogue and story are created from my memories of being a kid. To me, Nemu and Anpan are like children and it's actually kinda fun to have elementary school kids own Anpan and Nemu.
There are many times when I ask myself, what would Anpan or Nemu think, do or say in this situation. Once I get in that frame of mind, everything comes easily... well most of the time anyway.
I should do more observation of the kids at my work place though. Thank you for the great idea! -
I'd probably do it if we lived on Kona! You could always purchase the book online and have it mailed to her. We've done that on occasion for folks who want to send a birthday gift or a surprise.

Yep! And they taste great! Blueberry is my favorite yogurt and I recently found out it doesn't have as much sugar as some other fruits. so thats a plus!

Great question. California is the first place that comes to mind. Not sure how realistic that is though. Oregon and Washington have come to mind as well. I guess somewhere on the west coast is a safe bet. Anywhere in that region will probably be a better choice than Hawaii, at least for doing business.

I haven't had a chance to cook much for her really. I have helped her cook though! I'm not sure if she liked the olive oil and garlic pasta, but she had her own take on that particular recipe that she'll cook every now and then.
She's a really good cook! I end up doing the dishes. -
I love just about any kind of pancakes. I've tried some with chocolate chips in them once but it turned out to be too much for me after eating about half of a short stack.
I've also tried sourdough ones and they were pretty good.
I really like putting peanut butter on my pancakes... and maple syrup! If you haven't tried it, you should :-) -
I met Audra while I was helping out with a manga artist workshop. The workshop was to help young aspiring manga artist learn how to use various tools like pen and ink, tones and watercolor pens. We had meetings every Saturday at the school where I work at.
In an attempt to get more folks to the workshop, I sent out press releases to the local papers. One of the newspapers picked up on it and ran a short blurb about it. That weekend we had an overflow of folks show up! Audra didn't come on that weekend, but her mother showed her the tiny blurb which featured artwork by Mayumi. Turns out that Audra recognized the artwork and was intrigued enough to actually come down for a visit the following week.
We got to know each other by working together in that group. I'm not exactly sure how it happened but she eventually started helping out and sharing her talents with the participants. We started dating soon after. -
I've met a lot of local famous folk but not many hollywood type famous folk. I am friends with a few local musicians and a former local DJ. As for real famous people... hmm. Lisa Loeb, Bryan Duncan, Michael Sweet and Oz Fox from Stryper... are those famous enough?
