Pharoahe Monch, Rakim, Posdnuos, Q-Tip, Aesop Rock, Jay Electronica. Written poetry is something I loved when I was a kid, but it didn't really follow me to adulthood. Khary Jackson is a monster though - in a good way.

Elementary education. I'd love someone to plug something into the back of my head that would teach me to play keys, though.

Anyone who can answer this question doesn't listen to enough music. I couldn't even pick a favorite R&B drummer or favorite rapper, let alone a favorite musician.

I haven't. Although if they're named after the Lois Lowry book, I have to give them a listen. And anything that could be called a "beautifully layered sonic delight" will be added to my Lala cue. I only have Takk, but I put it on when I need to feel like the World Cup is about to start.

This is a question worthy of some serious thought. Off the Wall has some stone cold bangers - and the ones that people can sing by heart ("Don't Stop...", "Rock With You") aren't as hot as the ones they can't ("Working Day And Night," "Burn This Disco Out"). But Off the Wall also has "She's Out Of My Life," which is weird and pathetic - even weirder and more pathetic after you've heard Ginuwine cover it (and what is with the crying? Yuck.). Thriller, on the other hand, is wall to wall incredible. I can't really listen to the title track anymore, but I'll never tire of "PYT" or "Baby Be Mine," not to mention "Human Nature," which is an amazing, amazing song. And don't sleep on "Lady In My Life" just because LL screwed it up. I think it has to be Thriller, but everyone who loves Thriller should spend some serious time with Off the Wall, as well as the late Jacksons albums (Triumph and Victory).

It's hard to pick just one person. My mum and dad are strong, driven, and right with the world. My wife is unable to dilute her intellect, her quirkiness, or her creativity for anyone. My sister is funnier than me. A lot of artists inspire me. Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Donny Hathaway, Nas, Dave Eggers, Splendid Things....anyone who is able to make something that resonates because it's true. There are a handful of educators that inspire me as well.

Man, I don't know. I think I would like to figure out how I can be most useful. The pleasure I get from utility is different from any other kind - it doesn't have that nasty aftertaste because, although it's undertaken with self-satisfaction in mind (let's be honest), it helps to make rungs on someone else's ladder. Nahmean?

I'm certain I'll get an earfull for this, but I think it's Robert Downey, Jr. I don't get the hype. I didn't like him in Chaplin, I thought he was fine as Tony Starks (but it should have been Ghostface), and I don't think I laughed once in that fake action movie.

It looks like a cool toy, but the promo video highlights reading a book on it as its main feature, which I will never do. Also, I think people tend to have way more computing capacity than they actually need or even want.

The Brookstone surround sound earbuds are the way to go. They're around $30, but they're fantastic. They have a plastic/rubber hook that goes around the top of the ear so the inside of your ear doesn't have to support it, and the inside plays music indirectly so that you aren't damaging your hearing. Super comfortable, and great for moving around. When you're sitting, you can't beat a big pair of Sennheisers, though.

Appendix scar, and a scar from sliding down the hallway in my socks and crashing into a side table. When I was 25.

Piano. No question. It's so hard to learn properly as an adult. I want to play like Donny Hathaway and Aretha Franklin. I wouldn't mind being able to play like Billy Preston either.

Theatre games and pop music are about ALL I know. There isn't room for anything else in my head. Clams: The person in the middle says, "Clams are great because..." and says anything that comes to mind - it shouldn't relate to clams at all. Everyone else call out, "Yeah!" The center spot is passed at will - the exchange of focus can be a possible skill acquired. Ninja Bakers is a variation on a million other energy exchange games. The "baker" throws a pie to someone else and yells, "Pie!" The "receiver" says, "Not today!" and catches it, then throws again. Add strudels, hawks, spaghetti... One of my favorites is "Eight Things." One person tells another to name eight things in a miscellaneous category ("reasons you'd never want to run for president," "flavors of pasta sauce never invented," "things to pack when going to Boise," etc. The other person names the first eight things to come to mind, and the rest of the group counts after each one: "Spinach!" "One!" "Turtlenecks!" "Two!" You get the idea.

I spend a lot of time on Dusted Magazine, CBRAP, Wikipedia, LaLa, YouTube, Pitchfork, and Facebook.

"You've never been a revolutionary, besides in your campaigns, so I wasn't expecting anything rapid and exhilarating...but you're hearing something we're not hearing that's exacerbating your tentative nature. What is it? I need to defend you to my friends."

James Rone’s Bio

I'm a theatre artist, educator and musician, Bristol-born, but Midwestern-raised. I can jump pretty far, but my sit-and-reach is abysmal.
