If it has to hurt, it will hurt. I'd cut off all connections with that someone, then load myself with new activities to do with my girlfriends and family. Although we all know, from time to time, we'd be reminded of that someone and we cry/moan/insert whatsoever sad things we do here. We know that we'd never stop loving someone. (Unless the person has done horribly hurtful things to you) But we'd never stop loving someone, as a friend or a lover.
