Although I think these things are great, I kinda dislike this one. Trying to make a difference about not judging people but then it says "fat" in it. Kinda defeats the purpose in my opinion.

Lupus is a disease. That I have. :)
In more detail (in my own words): Lupus is an auto-immune disease that affects over 50,000 Canadians, yet few people have heard of it. It is more common than leukemia, muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis COMBINED.
In a healthy person, the body has antibodies that can attack and fight off infections, bacteria etc. In a person with lupus, the immune system becomes overactive, and creates antibodies called "auto-antibodies" that attack the persons' own tissue. These attacks create inflammation and pain, and can eventually lead to organ failure, and death. These auto-antibodies can attack any part of the body, whether its the brain, lungs, heart, kidney, stomach, skin etc.
The treatments for lupus are pretty tough as well. They can sometimes cause more damage than good. The treatments generally involve either 1.suppressing the immune system so the auto-antibodies can't fight the body and 2. reduce/prevent pain.
There are a lot of risks with treating lupus, and usually they end up causing another slew of problems.
There is no cure for lupus.
If you have any more questions about lupus let me know! :) I know a lot about it, considering I have it and have been battling it for almost 4 years. -
