      Does the fundamental mirror equation hold for images formed by convex spherical mirrors?

      The fundamental mirror equation certainly does hold for a convex spherical mirror but with one important difference to the concave spherical mirror.

      The focus for a convex mirror is virtual - parallel rays of light incident on the mirror are reflected outwards and appear to have come from a focus behind the mirror. However, they do not actually pass through this focus.

      For this reason, the focal length for a convex mirror is designated as being a negative quantity.
