I'm a relatively private person who loves family and friends, learning, writing, and making things.

    2. Anna

I RP daily, but not in the ways you might think. I'm involved in a couple of in-character chat channels (which are treated like radio frequencies, and NOT like some mysterious remote "room at an inn" that I have to pretend my character is in), and most of my characters are pretty vocal in them when conversations come up. Also, most raid nights involve at least one or two short RP interactions - even if they're simple or "mundane". On top of that, I'm usually working on at least one, if not several writing and fic projects for various characters, plus talking OOCly about RP with Arrens and members of my guild.

SO yes, I RP every day, but most of it isn't "taxing" - it's just little things that keep the "in character" part of the game very fresh and in my mind. Big storyline and event-based RP only happens once a week or so - if that even.

    3. Anna

OOC coordination is a must - at least before the event. Obviously you don't want to totally ruin the interaction, which can happen if you "over plan", but not allowing the other player(s) the chance to weigh in on what will happen is essentially taking control of the situation - and that's generally kind of rude. You don't need to plan out the blow-by-blow, but any conflict involves at least two parties, and in general, you want the other person to have the opportunity to be involved in the action and helping to make decisions about what involves and affects their character (s).

    4. Anna

I can - but they're in no way a "top" list. I have "top" lists for a lot of genres. I listen to a pretty wide variety of music.

Jazz (which is what I'm listening to right now):
      Count Basie
      Duke Ellington
      Bill Evans
      Oscar Peterson
Gordon Goodwin (and his Big Phat Band)
(... looking at that, those are all pianists and band leaders. make of that what you will...)

      Soundtracks:
      Hans Zimmer
      Klaus Badelt
      Howard Shore
      John Williams
I'd have to look up a 5th one, but those 4 are pretty kickass.

I'm a big fan of recordings from the Chicago Symphony (particularly their lead clarinet player - Larry Combs is pretty awesome)

Other than that, I've got a smattering of stuff. Arrens has me listening to country music (Dierks Bentley, Billy Currington, George Strait), and I like Imogen Heap quite a lot, and then I've got some stuff by Gregorian (which is electronic music mixed with Gregorian Chant/Chant style vocals) and...

and I just like music, dammit.

I also REALLY REALLY SUCK at remembering who wrote/performed something. I frequently get told "hey this song is awesome" and I'm like "i dunno that song" and someone looks at me like "YOU LIVE UNDER A ROCK?!" ... so I go look it up, and I /DO/ know the song, I just didn't remember the name or artist.

I dabble in PVP. Aely's got pretty decent gear for BGs and such, and I enjoy it with friends and in moderation...

I am, in fact, a social PVPer.

    7. Anna

My second part of playing WoW?

I'm... not sure what you mean. If you mean my second /favorite/, that's probably raiding. Or just "general PVE" - leveling alts in particular.

    8. Anna

That depends entirely on how much time Arrens has for RP. Since right now he's working nights, we're skewed more towards written/fic RP, as we can both work on that without having to be online at the same time.

That said, some things (like She said yes!) are fics that are essentially chat-log parses that have been turned into dialogue driven stories for the blog. Others (like Dark Summonings and a soon-to-be introduced fic series titled Unanswered) happen entirely in google documents and out of game.

I guess it's a balance. Things which are important, ground breaking, funny, really sad, or otherwise involved end up getting taken from game to fic and vice versa. We tend to do large dialogue sets in game, because it's easier that way? But by far none of this is set in stone.

(And, to be honest, a lot of our in-game RP (in fact, the vast majority of it) is done in /say, so it's kind of for "public consumption" either way!)

I broke one of the bones in my right hand (the bone that connects my fourth finger to my wrist) when I was in grade school. I went to pull the sliding door of my mom's minivan closed, and my brother slammed the front door shut on it. My hand got caught in the "door-shut" mechanism, and /snap!/

Other than that, I've never had any broken bones, but I've had countless joint injuries and a few surgeries on my knee that involved screws/drilling. (FUN) I'm really prone to such things.

    10. Anna

NNNGH. I hate you a little bit right now. I love books. Lots of books, lots of different kinds of books. So I'm going to cheat and give two answers to #1 and #2 (question 3 is actually easy, as that's happened to me recently.)

      Favorite books and why?
The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster - This has been my Favorite Book (tm) since I read it for the first time in the third grade. The whole book is a giant play on words, and I have always been fascinated with words and wordplay. Juster is a master of this, and still manages to write a damn good fairytale to go alongside. It's also quite funny.

"Why not? That's a good reason for almost anything - a bit used perhaps, but still quite servicable."

      Favorite Book(s)
The Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien - For a few reasons. Because I love words, and Tolkien uses them so well that I pore over the long pages of description that so many people hate, wishing that he'd spent another three pages on it. Because it's an epic story, an epic fantasy, an epic history set in a world that is ours but is not ours, and that manages to seem utterly real even in the presence of magic. And because my dad and I read it out loud together when I was in middle school, and I cherish that memory.

I love a lot of books, but those two always stand out.

As for a book I really wanted to like but couldn't get into? A Song Of Ice And Fire by George RR Martin. It's like... a Wildfire Riders Manifesto that THOU SHALT READ ASOIAF. And I tried, I really did. But when I get the feeling that an author doesn't give a shit about his characters? I stop caring. I made it halfway through before Martin's disregard just annoyed me and I quit. Also, I don't like reading stories that are dark upon dark upon dark because OH LOOK I"M BEING DARK, hey have some more grimdark, here's some dark to go with it. Really not a fan. I realize my presence in the guild is put into some question by writing this, but ... well, it's the truth!

I think what makes WoW so strong right now is not the game itself, but the community it's created. Until something either happens to the game that forces the community to move or a game is created that is /so much better/ that large groups of WoW players leave in groups (essentially moving, but leaving the community intact), WoW will remain a force to be reckoned with.

    12. Anna

Actually Grover is my favorite Sesame Street character. (I am known to sing "Around, Around, ARound, Around, OVER and under, and THROUGH!" ) The Count just comes up because ... well, sometimes you have to count things, and it's more fun, if you have to count things, to go

THREE! THREE QUESTIONS! AH AH ah ah ah...

      >.> Or maybe I'm crazy.

    13. Anna

Too Many Annas is because of my list of character names:

Angoleth, Annalira, Annorah, Annie Mae, Annylais, Anrietta, Anaje, and Aelflaed (who breaks the mold but I don't care)

At the time the blog was created, Aelflaed (my current main) was a wee underplayed little alt, and I was a full time Resto Shaman named Annorah. I get called "Anna" in chat because of it - or did until I went almost full time paladin and joined a new guild, where I'm known almost evenly as Anna and Aely.

The name started out by accident, actually. Angoleth was my first character, and people called me "Ann"... so I kinda stuck with it and it became a fun naming convention that I've kind of "trademarked".

I actually really like it, because it means I can write about other MMO's, other writing, whatever class or WoW experience I want and still have the name make sense.

    14. Anna

Off the top of my head, I don't think I know anyone named Anna in real life. I know it's not an uncommon name, and I do know one "Anne," but I don't run into actual people named Anna very often.

That said, my real name isn't Anna either!

    15. Anna

      Two things.
      1) wowwiki.com
      2) don't be overly specific with your background at first. Getting too detailed is usually where you get into trouble with lore-consistency. Hit up wowwiki and learn about your race and class, and then if you have other ideas to relate to your character, read up on those articles too.

Picking a background that doesn't require overly specific lore-interaction (A human paladin refugee from Lordaeron. A retired Night Elf Sentinel who served in several wars.) will help you out - AND it serves to help you not spend 40 hours on a backstory that you'll never tell anyone because in-game RP VERY VERY VERY RARELY involves sitting around talking about your backstories. I've never had it happen, actually, other than in OOC conversation :D

    16. Anna

Though a couple of people have called me that, it's never been anything consistent.

I was known as Annafish for awhile though.

    17. Anna

I really want to play a dwarf. I actually have a dwarf hunter - a middle aged Dwarf lady named Anrietta. She's a little bit girly (but you know... in a dwarfy way), and is generally fun loving and a damn good shot. She doesn't have a concrete backstory, though I like to think she's a more "northern" dwarf (she's not a Wildhammer though).

I've also got some plans in the future, for if I decide to race-swap Annorah into a Dwarf. As a Dwarf shaman, I see her as being incredibly connected to the elements of Earth and Water, and I'd like to play that up in her personality as well as in the kinds of things that she uses for being Shaman-y (For reference, Annorah the Draenei Shaman is primarily connected to Fire and Water). As for true storylines, I've not done enough Dwarf research to do much past those loose ideas.

    18. Anna

Essentially I think it comes down to character development. Characters that never have challenges are static - and by extension, boring. Plus, it's a combination of things, because there's some merit to testing your creation - seeing how strong it is, how much it can take, how it deals with challenges.

I am incredibly emotionally connected with my characters (especially Aely) - but I also enjoy seeing her get herself out of trouble, seeing how she relates to other characters. Doing horrible things to our characters is something most fiction writers do - we subject them to heartbreak and loss and challenge and fear.

Ideally we then get them out of it, and watch them take shape as 3D beings.

Which isn't to say it's always fun - I cry when I'm writing things that are particularly difficult for Aely, because that connection is there and because heartbreaking things are still heartbreaking. Writing up her involvement in Jolstraer's passing and then having to tell the Riders about it was one of the most difficult things I've ever done. It's also some of the writing that I'm most proud of, because it is successful. (I'm also incredibly proud of Aely's speech from The Longest Night - which isn't sad, but is just as evocative.)

I think the one thing you DO need to watch for though is that YOU approve of the things that happen to your character. Sure, sometimes external things happen, but ideally you're working in tandem with other RPers to make sure that things aren't happening that you disapprove of. I've said no to storylines that could've been really fun because I knew Aely couldn't handle the extra pressure.

(That's a really rambly answer, and I"ll probably turn this into a blog post, but hopefully that gives you a toe-hold!)

    19. Anna

I really don't think of myself as being well-known. I mean, the WoW blogging community knows me, but we're just a little corner of the internet, and I read a lot of blogs that are a LOT bigger than Too Many Annas. I'm still a little fish in the great big internets :)

That said, by far the most fun thing about being (a little bit) internet-notable is getting to interact with brand new RPers. Seeing people get excited about a facet of the game they've never tried is SO unbelievably cool, and I love helping out with character creation and getting a little personality or story set up. It's fun, and it's really rewarding. That, and I've made a lot of really amazing friends doing it (See: @Arrens, @tami_moore, @loreli, @wynthea, and even, to some extent, the wildfire riders!)

The part I could do without is the paranoia about my account and having my personal/real life info end up all over the internet. It's pretty easy to contact me - intentionally - and that's been abused by a few people in rather uncomfortable ways in the past.

If you'd like, I can dig up the chat conversation whereby I was told NOT to send the cookies, because they'd end up sitting on your porch for a week.

However, if you're nice, I may send you birthday cookies instead.
