What do you love about your job? What would you change about your job?
I love that I work for an organization with a seriously bold and important mission. I love that I work with some of the most intelligent, incredible, amazing women I've ever known. I love that my job is to write, and I love the moments where I realize I do well at it. I love that what I do has an impact on the lives of women and girls and their families. I love that my job is in the greatest city on earth. I love that my career station has a view of the Chicago river and the lake. I love that my bosses are women who understand empowerment and mentoring and actively dedicate themselves to my professional and personal development. I know I am very lucky to have all of this, every day when I go to work.
I wish that I could change the sad reality that nonprofit work is painfully mediocre in the salary department. That sounds very trite, in light of all I've just outlined above, but there's something very wrong with the world when single CEO bonuses in the corporate financial sector are equal to the entire revenue budget of an organization that assists more than 130,000 women and girls each year with sexual violence and support services, economic empowerment, and early childhood services.
What I do is vitally important, it just isn't valued. I wish it were.
