I love that I work for an organization with a seriously bold and important mission. I love that I work with some of the most intelligent, incredible, amazing women I've ever known. I love that my job is to write, and I love the moments where I realize I do well at it. I love that what I do has an impact on the lives of women and girls and their families. I love that my job is in the greatest city on earth. I love that my career station has a view of the Chicago river and the lake. I love that my bosses are women who understand empowerment and mentoring and actively dedicate themselves to my professional and personal development. I know I am very lucky to have all of this, every day when I go to work.
I wish that I could change the sad reality that nonprofit work is painfully mediocre in the salary department. That sounds very trite, in light of all I've just outlined above, but there's something very wrong with the world when single CEO bonuses in the corporate financial sector are equal to the entire revenue budget of an organization that assists more than 130,000 women and girls each year with sexual violence and support services, economic empowerment, and early childhood services.
What I do is vitally important, it just isn't valued. I wish it were. -
That would have to be, for so many reasons, the second night of MCR in Jersey.

It JUST got warm. Like five minutes ago. I've been wearing nothing but dresses and sandals since!

He was adorable! His band was so cute, too. And he played "Maybe I Will" and it reminded me of our big awesome California Young Veins adventure and I missed you lots.

Oh man last Saturday my friend Erin and I went to Karyn's on Green where EVERYTHING is vegan and EVERYTHING is made of absolute amazingness. My favorite thing was the raw cheese plate.. I have NO idea how they made those taste so much like delicious cheeses using only vegetables and nuts but holy crap, for the absolute WIN.

I am looking forward to wearing skirts and dresses without having to also wear tights! I also own a lot of t-shirts. Honestly if it would just get to the point where I could wear a hoodie and not have to wear a coat, that would rule.

I actually caught them with Travie a couple of weeks ago. I was surprised at how much fun they were, how enjoyable. I actually really liked the show, it was good! I was drunk but it was genuinely good, I like Bebe's stage presence. I am never mad at an awesome lady belting out some dance tunes. \o/

I have listened to it a couple of times. I like it, it's dancy, it's catchy. I'm seeing them in June. I am hoping the live show will contain more winning-over-ness.

I have tickets for both Cold War Kids and Bright Eyes in March, and I'm excited for both. Looking forward to both of those albums, as well as Patrick's solo record, and the new Strokes album. I was just telling Lauren J yesterday that I'd super certainly be excited to see TAI again though. And all the MCR shows I'm going to in April and May!

I am interested, and I will definitely see them when they come through. I'm keeping an open mind about it all, and I wish them a great deal of success and I hope they do well. I also really hope I like what they do but that remains to be seen!

Where do I begin? Whiskey and I have an evolving affair. I appreciate its complexity; the way in which a whiskey indulgence seems more mature than the flash and triviality of vodka or tequila. I enjoy taking my time with sipping whiskey, savoring the nuance. I partake in all sorts of drinks, except gin, and whiskey is the opposite of gin: warm and rich and substantive where gin is flighty and flowery and cloying. Much like with coffee, I had to take the time to get to know whiskey and what it could do for me, and now I'm hooked.

The Beatles, "Yesterday" (2:05) and REM, "It's the End of the World As We Know It" (4:06). This leaves me 49 seconds to pop some valium and say goodbye.

ARRRGGHH how is a finger more genetically useful THAN MY ENTIRE UTERUS?!
FINE. Whatever finger they want, then. -
