Not as tall as I'd like to be, sadly. 5'8" in heels!
That was a sad moment for me (get it together, Jess).
I'm 5'5" -
Social media has given us increased access to web content that originally changed the way we shop. If you're on twitter and see a link to Toronto Life's holiday gift guide, with tons of ideas for great gifts and where to get them, Twitter is simply another vessel to bring you to that article. Or if an online shopping outlet posts a holiday shopping guide on their page, or on Twitter, you can hop on over and order some presents. Same with sales and promotions at stores -- you can find them on Facebook and Twitter. Which helps you decide where you want to go to get gifts.

I would certainly prefer to wake up a foot taller (preferably in the leg area). I'm an A and I like it that way...I would not want to be a D cup. But, in the end, it wouldn't change my day or my life in the slightest :)
-
no, i don't. thanks - i'll look into it!
-
That's definitely a smarter thing to do! Thanks for the idea :)

In the garbage! It sucks...

I can't tell whether this is a pervy question and you want it to end up with me relaying unintentionally sexy stories about water fights and dropping the soap, or if for some odd reason you're just curious. Yes, I have. At camp. It was fine.

It pains me to admit that I've never had a Soma truffle (I am, however, a huge fan of their bars), but if I had to guess what my fave would be I'm thinking Spicy Mayan Dome or Australian Ginger & Lemon.

I wish I was a shopping guru who could give you a fool proof answer to this question but, alas, my tights tear too! It's probably because I buy them at H&M, which means I can buy ten times as many since they're cheap cheap cheap. But really high quality tights come from brands like Wolford, where they cost upwards of $50-$100 but are supposed to last longer. I think it's fifty per cent the tights themselves and fifty per cent the wearer, and I'm a careless wearer so any tights I toss on are bound to get nicked in some way. Sorry I can't be more helpful!

There are a few staples that everyone should have in their wardrobe, and they're definitely going to sound boring but c'est la vie. Nice black pants (I like slimmer ones but not too legging-y and not too trendy, like harems), a black pencil skirt, a versatile blazer, a good pair of boots with heels (either ankle booties or knee-highs), etc. Very simple and utilitarian items that kind of make you think of the Club Monaco uniform, but that you can dress up and down and all around. I got my black Prada pencil skirt (it's a bit more A-line actually) vintage at Thrill of the Find, I like investing in nice black pants from Theory or Rag and Bone, quality lines that won't completely break the bank. My favourite blazer is from Zara but it's salmon colour with structured shoulders, so I consider my black Zara blazer or Wilfred blazer from Aritzia staples. I'd buy boots at Aldo, Zara or on sale at Holts or Chasse Gardee. It's also crucial to have a long evening dress (especially when you have an endless number of weddings in the pipeline because all your friends are getting married and it seems like an epidemic, but that's another story...) I got a beautiful, long black dress that will never go out of style at Want on Avenue Road, and another is ruched and gold, from Nicole Miller at Holt Renfrew. Also, a cocktail dress. I just grabbed one that I wore to a wedding this past weekend at BCBG. It's simple, black and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

I don't shop at Victoria's Secret so I'm not really familiar with the clothing, except the Pink line which has some cute loungey clothing and pajamas -- all of which I'd only wear in the house, not outside. But the main clothing line, now that I'm looking, has some pieces I'd definitely wear. The pencil pant in camo print is cool and so are the skinny cargo pants. It's all really well priced, although I think I'm looking at the American site and prices tend to inflate on this side of the lakes. Some of the fall sweaters are great too. Wow, I'm actually having a lot of fun on this site...well, mainly because I love Abbey Lee Kershaw so much...

I'm an editorial assistant at Toronto.com, where I write about shopping and restaurants.

I used to shop at Abercrombie and Fitch, when I was a teenager and my daily uniform was sweatpants and a t-shirt. I also liked their underwear. But those days are long over, and I have other places I'd rather shop now. I may sound like a granny, but I find Abercrombie and Hollister way too dark, way too loud and more than a bit oversexed. If I want to see a giant, half-nude teenaged boy, I'll just see Eclipse again, thank you very much.

I think in terms of culture and cuisine Toronto is very much like New York: uber-cosmopolitan, big arts scene, fashionable, ever-evolving restaurant landscape. However, New York is still lightyears ahead in some regards, and there is just so much more of everything on Manhattan (e.g. restaurants, bars, clubs, designers, galleries, etc.).
-
Nope, never. There are so many people in New York that you really have to pay attention to notice something like that. And I like to do my people-watching from so far away that I can make up stories about the people I see.

I ate at all my favourite restaurants (Cafe Habana, Cafe Gitane, Momofuku) and some new spots (Gemma, Pulino's, La Esquina). I wandered and shopped around the west village, soho, nolita and the bowery, and went to the new museum and the MOMA. I also went to the PS1 gallery (MOMA-affiliated) in Queens and took a ride on a shark boat at the south street seaport. My favourite thing to do, besides seeing art, is just to wander...

Jessica Pollack’s Bio
My life essentially revolves around the following: brunching at delicious (and increasingly cheap) spots, trying (failing) to control my shopping impulses, reading books by badass authors and going to altogether too many shows. Oh, and writing a/b it...
