The Shrine is out o DVD in Canada now. It comes out mid July here in the States.

I definitely think original is better. But it keeps getting harder to be original since there are so many story lines that have been done. So I guess the studio system just remakes stuff cause it's fast an easier than taking a chance on something brand new. And as long as people keep seeing the remakes, the studios will keep making them.

The Shrine was a mixture of several ideas. I was definitely inspired by Scott Smith's "The Ruins". I don't think i really have a 'process' when coming up with an idea. I usually keep searching my brain for all sorts of ideas and then I try to connect them. Eventually i string enough together that I have some kind of a rough storyline. Then the real work begins.

A manager saw my short, hooked me up with an agent who helped me find a relative who sold their kidney for some cash. It wasn't enough so I maxed out a few credit cards and schemed a few rich people....yep, that's all it takes.
Or you do it the more standard way where you write a script, use short films to support your abilities, find a producer who knows of investors, put a package together and pitch them. It's not easy; we had a fortunate situation, but it can be done.
In general you need to think about the business side of it. Any investor is gonna want to know how they will make their money back. Perhaps you can pre sell the film, or attach a name actor with a fanbase, etc... -
There are definitely a lot of sequels, prequels and remakes. It's just part of the industry, especially these days. I'm not crazy about a lot of them, but at the same time they don't bother me. As long as the filmmaker has a vision and cares creatively about the project. Some great films are too old now for contemporary audiences to want to watch, unfortunately. Technology has advanced alot and some people just can't handle stuff from the past...again, unfortunately. So I think sometimes a remake can be a good thing. I guess it depends on how you look at it. Cronenberg's "The Fly" is a remake and that's one of my favorite films.
If someone wanted to remake one of my films I'd be flattered. Can't think of any reason why it would bother me. As long as the filmmaker cares about the quality of the project. -
Currently I'm trying increase my rank on Halo: Reach. Also have a few scripts in development. Nothing's official yet.
