What injuries, if any, have you had related to your training? How did you recover and still train?
The only two injuries I've had to date are IT band friction syndrome (which also involved some issues with a dislocated tibia), and bursitis. The IT band friction syndrome began while training for The Baltimore Marathon in 2009, and continued all the way through to the marathon. This caused me to have to walk the last 16 miles of the marathon. About a week later, I developed bursitis in my left knee after doing my first short run post-marathon.
After the marathon, I took things fairly easy. The only race I did after the marathon in October was the Disney Princess 1/2 Marathon in March 2010, and I suffered again through IT band issues for that race. After that race, I decided to shift focus for 2010 and trained for 2 triathlons instead of only running. I haven't had any problems since.
Personally, besides all of the standard ice and rest indications, cross training has made all of the difference. I've owned the fact that my body is just not built to run 26 miles at one time, and I'm OK with that. I have a lot of fun varying my workout and race schedule, and this seems to have kept me injury free since March 2010.
