Right now, I'm obsessed with florence + the machine. I also love stars, regina spektor, arcade fire, and the weepies and I could probably go on and on. I am a music lover.

I did my pilates training through the Physicalmind Institute (themethodpilates.com). I really loved it and have found it has a great reputation everywhere I go. I'm also planning to take the Pilates Method Alliance exam soon. It is becoming more and more "the standard" and expected. I did the It's Yoga teacher training, which I also loved. I would recommend getting as much training from workshops and pro classes as possible. It keeps you excited about what you're doing. I've seen so many teachers who don't really practice what they preach come and go. You can't be an effective instructor unless you have your own philosophy that you live by.

I wanted to be a ballerina or on Broadway. I followed my ballet aspirations and that's essentially how I ended up teaching pilates and yoga.

I love Trader Joe's. I'm totally hooked. Whole Foods is great, but a little pricey. You definitely don't have to go all organic & specialty to eat well. It's all about balance. Get as much good as you can afford & stand.

Choosing to go with grilled chicken or fish, steamed veggies, dressing on the side, and/or passing on the bread are all great, simple ways. Watching those portions/splitting a meal that's a little more decadent is always a more fun option too.

I spend most of my time on the mat, at home. However lately, I have been craving a class setting so I've been trying out different studios. Yoga Vista is one that I love. I tried the Hub and am dying to do some mysore style at Ashtanga Yoga LA. It's all the way in Silverlake though so being a westsider it's a bit out of my way.

My plan is to get a minimum of 4 days of cardio (usually a run), 3 days of Pilates, & 1 day of yoga weekly. Then, I like to focus on one of these each week. So for example, I'll add in an extra day or two of Pilates. Or I'll lengthen or change up one of these to make it more challenging or relaxing depending on what I need. This week I'm adding stairs into my runs. This works really well for my body. So I always have a default plan, but its always changing enough that I'm not getting bored.

We've been married just over a year and a half. I can't believe it's been that long already. It's gone by so fast!

Great question! The first thing you want to do is pay attention to how you're working your abs. You want to feel like you're lacing up your rib cage like a corset and pulling your bellybutton into your body. What usually tends to happen is we push our abs out into a little pouch when we're working them (especially when it's challenging), which is why you may end up with a little pouch of muscle. You also want to get in tune with those deeper abdominal muscles. Most exercises only work the exterior layer. By getting into the interior abs or transverse, you build strength from within and it allows everything to pull in tighter for a flatter and stronger tummy. This is why pilates is so great. Initially it can be hard to even feel these muscles if you haven't worked them before, so don't be frustrated if it takes a while to make that connection.

They have similar goals: to balance the body & connect body to mind. And both focus on the breath. So I would say the way they go about it is the big difference. Pilates is more methodical & specific. You're really able to work every muscle in the body and customize your workout. And yoga is more of an all-encompassing, experience. Also, the flexibility gained from strengthening while stretching in yoga is amazing.

I looove both, but for very different reasons. I love the movement in Pilates-- so specific and focused while engaging the whole body, getting awesome results. And I love yoga for the experience of it. I love challenging myself to do something I didn't think I could do. Both keep my body balanced and lean, but in different ways.

I prefer running outside. I feel like I get a harder workout & more of a variety. Still, sometimes it's nice to just hop on a treadmill & turn on a movie--and forget you're even running.

Oatmeal is a great flat tummy food, there has been a lot of buzz about this lately. I like old fashioned oats with cinnamon and stevia. Keeping my portions in check and avoiding over-processed, high-sugar foods makes a huge difference too.

I think more than anything, if you exercise daily and watch your meal portions, you can maintain a healthy weight. Then, the types of exercise and foods will determine more specific things like muscle tone and how flat your tummy is.

I got into both in when I was about 17. As a dancer, I noticed a major difference in my strength, flexibility, & muscle tone.

lately, I've been re-reading the proper care & feeding of husbands. It's a good one to remind you how much this man of yours actually needs you :)
