from BIOLOGY / HERBOLOGY (Harry Potter For The Win) / Botany: Sunflowers are heliotropic, which means that their movements tract the sun. As the sun moves across the sky, the sunflower's face will gradually turn to face the sun.
FROM GREEK MYTHOLOGY: There is a Greek legend about a maiden, who may have been a princess or a water nymph. The maiden, Clytie, fell in love with the sun god, Apollo. Apollo returned Clytie's love for a while, but grew tired of her and rejected her. Clytie was forlorn and spent her days watching Apollo move across the sky in his chariot. Eventually, the gods took pity on her and turned her into a flower. This is why the sunflower keeps it eye on the sun.
uhuh. later i found out there are more types of flowers who follow the sun. Some unheard of, European sounding flowers :))
