Do you get a lot of people asking you about asexuality?

      Nope, just you.

      IDEAL DATE?? inb4cynical answer

We go out to dinner and a movie and come back home and brainstorm science-fiction novels together (because of course it was a sci-fi film, or at least something with LGBT characters) for a few hours over a bottle of wine. And maybe fall asleep on the couch watching Sherlock!

When I'm standing in front of a microphone in front of a giant room full of indies for 5 minutes at GDC, what do they need (or what do you want them to hear) to hear from me? Knock-knock jokes are an acceptable answer.

      KNOCK KNOCK!
      WHO'S THERE?
      (whispered) INDIE GAMES.
EVERY YOUNG WHITE MALE IN THE AUDIENCE EJACULATES SIMULTANEOUSLY.

Is everything going to be okay?

Well, coal is going to run out in 100 years, and gas has about 60 years left...but hey, as long as you have a lot of love, happiness and noodles in your life, then what the heck. We've had a good run.

      Favourite pun of all time?

      Probably:

Q: "What's the difference between a cat and a comma?"
A: "A cat has claws at the end of its paws, while a comma's a pause at the end of a clause."

Second-place goes to the cheese-pun "I camembert it."

Ever seen the puns from "Marathon"? Some brutal ones.

      Quite. *snickers*

Do you think Nintendo still knows how to make a good Mario game?

well, nintendo isn't a single, old, bearded japanese man, nintendo is a corporation that employs people. and some of those people undoubtedly know how to make a good mario game. will nintendo-the-corporation allow its employees to make a good mario game? probably not! as nintendo's most established, money-making franchise, mario designers aren't allowed a lot of RISK. that's why every new mario game is a frankenstein pairing of neat ideas and outdated "mario" tropes.

this is why, for example, super mario galaxy can't ditch the idea of "lives" and "game overs" even though the game showers you with so many 1ups that you could never possibly get a game over. BECAUSE WHAT WOULD A MARIO GAME BE WITHOUT 1UP MUSHROOMS? NOT A MARIO GAME! it's hard for creative people to be creative when marketers and suits are dictating what ideas they are and are not allowed to put in a game. but they ARE creative people, and that's why the games do contain creative ideas, even if other ideas are hampering them.

I enjoyed Digital quite a bit, the story is what really surprised me as I didn't think I'd get so involved in the characters. You probably get asked this a lot but are you planning on making a sequel of some sort?

I can't imagine writing a direct sequel, the story stands entirely alone, and I don't think I could do anything interesting with the remaining characters.

But I would be interested in doing another mystery story with a silent protagonist, given a computer interface. What about, I have no idea, but I think it's probably a given that I'll eventually do something along similar lines as Digital.

I don't think concluding that Cyclops is on your team is a presumption. We know Wolverine is in "Wolverine & The X-Men" written by Aaron. We know you write Uncanny. We know that Cyclops is not in Wolverine's team. Ergo, he must be in your Uncanny. Right?

You don't know that Cyclops isn't on Wolverine's team. You don't know that Cyclops stays with my team. You don't know that Cyclops doesn't quit the X-men in disgust. You don't know that Cyclops survives. You don't know anything about Cyclops. You're presuming all that.

The only thing that's sure currently is that Wolverine is on Jason's team. Everything else is presumption. That's my point.
