We definitely put full faith in the Guru Granth Sahib. Thanks for your suggestion!
PS: Just an aside, the writings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji are not found in the Guru Granth Sahib. -
We do know the difference and I would want to further explore your particular individual definition of Sikhi. Hope to see you in June and in the meantime we have camps going on throughout the state. Gur Fateh!

There are a mix of people. View the pictures on facebook and you will find many women that wear dastars as well as find many Amritdhari women that do not wear them as well. If the majority do not wear dastars in the pictures, it is because the majority in our community do not. We encourage all! If you want to increase the number of a particular part of the community, then come!

Not sure of the gist of the question, but for the most part all of our projects are concentrated in California.
Though....we have had events in Arizona and even Sweden! (http://www.jakaramovement.org/2009/11/09/visions-of-truth-in-sweden-jakara-musings/)
Think globally; act locally.

We have yet to receive the money yet. In preparation for the April 2010 tax season, we will be making our tax papers available to the entire community.
Our treasurer and accountant hopes to make quarterly reports available through the website and thus enable the Jakara Movement to be one of the most transparent Sikh organizations.
The money, once received, will largely go to expand existing programs, as well as fund new ones that were listed in a previous answer (see below).

Anytime you are attempting to create change in the community, you will have 'haters.' We appreciate constructive criticism in order that we may be able to humbly serve better. However, most important we seek to encourage and invite all to participate in being part of a collective.
The problem with a charge such as 'anti-Panthic' is that those that make such allegations engage in a great leap of 'haumai'. They believe that they as individuals somehow embody the entire Panth.
As a Panthic organization, the Jakara Movement seeks to abide by both the letter and spirit of the Panthic Rehat Maryada.
If you feel there is a problem, be part of the change and get involved! -
Nothing new to report yet.
A first townhall meeting is being scheduled in the Bay Area. Using this as a gauge, we will attempt to have them in other areas in California as well. -
A number of them.
Monthly Movement Calls - conference calls for the public to find out about current projects.
Ladoos: Pink and Blue - a project for mother's health and beginning to explore the problem of sex-selective abortions in our community
Jakara Conference - June 2010 on "The Guru Granth Sahib: A History of the Sikh Soul". Registration to follow soon.
Singh Convalescence - In August 2010, we are organizing a two-week retreat for young boys that are getting into problems with gangs and drugs. The camp will look to build character and leadership through Sikhi.
SSA Collaborative - A project to begin towards improving our collegiate SSAs.
That's on the table for now. More projects are in the work (DV shelter town-halls, and much more).

Thank the Guru!
You are too kind, yet we don't deserve such comments.
Das of the Panth,
Jakara Movement -
We are working to possibly reduce the conference expenses this year and bring down the Regular Registration. Announcements will be made in the next few weeks. Register early and avoid any late fees!

The hotel is being decided. It will not be at the same hotel as last year. The final decisions will be made by the conference committee in the next 2 weeks. Check the website for updates and announcements. www.jakara.org

How do we create a Guru-inspired community?
That is the question. -
If you think so, help change the culture and volunteer. If you have specific complaints, feel free to email us and we can constructively address them. You can find the contact information on the website. Together, we are the movement. Gur Fateh!
