I simply do not believe that to be true, but let's get this over with? Really, I'm going to do my best to sum up my opinion on the Christian god here. I assume that's the god you're referring to since he is currently the most popular one. Forgive me if I'm wrong and you're referring to any of the other ones out there.
I never had a strong belief in god. In fact when I was young I thought it was a job you could get and I wanted it. I remember being sad that I couldn't be. I also remember not believing in Heaven but believing in Hell. I was sure I was going because I couldn't believe in god. I beat myself and immersed myself in the bible. That didn't last long. They were too many things I disagreed with morally in the bible. Sexism, slavery, unfair judgement, and testing of people's faith just to name the major ones. Also, they were contradictions. I stopped being afraid of Hell because I stopped believing in it.
What if I'm wrong though? The popular way to answer this is, "What if you're wrong too?" and I do like that answer. Mine is a bit different though. If I'm wrong I will gladly go to Hell. I would rather spend an eternity in agony than to praise such a petty supernatural being that I disagree with morally. I can't change my ideas of right and wrong to correspond with the Christian faith and practices. Changing those would be lying to myself and I think also would be impossible to do. I have very strong moral conventions.
So if there is a god, and he is the Christian god, and it could be proven he existed I would still not praise him because of the pain and suffering he promotes and demands.
So I'm an atheist because I have always been one, but also I would be one if I wasn't born this way because my morals wouldn't allow me to be anything else.
I'm sorry if this has offended you in anyway. I'm not an anti-theist even if I sometimes seem that way. I wish you good luck in your faith and life. I also will answer any other questions you have as best as I can.

To be honest my first fantasy I remember was to be god. I thought being god was a position you could get to, like if you were a good pope then you had a chance at becoming the real big guy. When people asked me what I wanted to be when I grow up. I responded god. Until it was explain to me god was god and no one else could be god. I think that's when I should have first known I was an atheist because I thought it was unfair that god would never retire.

Nope, never really done any drugs. I know I'm boring but when you grow up with a friend that's a drug dealer it just doesn't seem worth it.
