It really depends on the couple. My relationship with them, and my vibe. When I'm designing ANYTHING I want in the world- with no limits [typically faux wedding shoots], I start with a theme/idea and a color scheme. Everything develops around that. When I design events, I design to the last detail... every little thing is important. Sometimes those details are what come together first and the bigger picture is developed accordingly. :)

New York City or Paris, France. Neither with my husband and I'm dying to go back with him. Sigh.

I never get flowers. Like, ever. BUT, in my husband's defense... I'm a super flower snob. I know what I like, and know what I don't. He doesn't really stand a chance!
I try and buy myself a bunch once a week- which gets pushed aside when I'm busy- for my office. I love fresh flowers more than anything!! -
In what work environment? In my office? Keeping tidy and not getting distracted with email/phone calls. At weddings? Different story! Typically it's just reigning in everything that is beyond my control [wind, rain, other elements combined with vendors and their needs, the freak incidents and the things you just have to solve in a moment's time].
The best thing you can do to be prepared? Gain experience. Bring a balanced, equipped team of assistants with you, and pack a great "emergency bag"! -
Typically I preface it, if I do this at all. If I know someone that has worked with them, that's a huge selling point. If I've met them and spent time with them in person... even bigger. To me, the wedding industry is all about character. Sometimes you truly CAN tell that by reading a person's blog/website. Sometimes it's face to face contact that leaves an impression. It's always quality of work. I'm fortunate enough to have a large pool of vendors that I've worked with in the past to chose from. I have incredibly high standards for myself and co-mingling my name with anyone's name in ANY capacity can be scary. I also let my clients know up front any known issues with vendors that I still recommend [ie. "she's amazing, but really not so great at email... we'll just have to pick up the phone and call her"]. I believe honesty is key!

Hiring is a sticky word!! I do have one current intern- a newbie- who is working with me come May in the office. We'll need another [or two] to help with the summer season and also in-office once or twice a week with admin stuff. If you're interested, follow the blog and I'll post something on there when we're a bit more sane on the home front!

I think it came gradually and over time. I definitely didn't know when I got married at 21. About a year later, I took an intern position for a wedding planner that my mother had known many years prior. It just so worked out that she taught me all the ropes [however, she is not a designer]. The design side is something that grew out of my love for the event as a whole. It's where I'm most skilled. :)

Although I attended college for one year, I never graduated! I don't have a degree in anything. A rarity these days, I'm sure. Planning [and event design, especially] just came naturally to me. I always thought I wanted to be a mom and wife above all else. And though I look forward to that very much, I feel blessed beyond words to have found something I'm passionate about as well!

cheeto puffs.
this is a joke answer. -
In highschool! But not sweethearts. We grew up at the same church together [our whole lives practically] but it took us meeting through a random outgoing friend at school [his senior year and my junior] to realize that we'd been barley missing one another for so many years. We have a saga of a story and I wouldn't change a lick of it!

yikers- I can't play much. But I do bang around a fierce tambourine. Nope. That's not true. I sing okay- so I'd probably do more of that.

I've been notoriously outspoken about my love for specifically southern California. The idea of leaving to LIVE elsewhere is completely unfeasible to me! But if I had to stay for a few months somewhere, it'd be in Europe most likely [as long as I could take my husband]. New York and Seattle also make the cut for consideration [3 months, tops].

definitely not. I did used to be more punky though! And as for my pinky toes... they have unfortunately not seen polish in quite some time!

One on my left hand- from lifting a tray of cookies out of the oven and hitting the top on the way out. Ouch.

I see a LOT of movies, but none really stick out as the "best". I'm a hard sell for a good romantic comedy... but I still see all the bads.
