How do you deal with inner demons? Sheer desire or cement like willpower?

This one has really got me thinking, which is why I'm just now responding. I honestly don't have an answer. I guess I'm not sure of what you mean by inner demons. If you mean things that I struggle with in my life- I deal with them alone. I tend to beat myself up and not let anyone know what's really going on. Which is not healthy and the total opposite of what I would tell a client to do! Ha, funny how that works. If you meant something else by inner demons, then I'll try again! :)

      Is honesty the best policy?

For most situations, absolutely. We have feelings and thoughts that are unique to us and make us who we are, so why hide them? There are some situations when the truth, or parts of it, should be withheld if it will seriously damage another person. I can't think of an exact situation right now- for obvious reasons- but I know there are some.

Aww I just got on this for the first time in awhile and saw your gchat answer! It made me smile :) a question: how do you avoid disappointment/getting your hopes up? Or if you can't avoid, how do you deal with it?

I try to chose events or people that are rewarding and teach me something however obviously I fail occasionally. So I try to deal with it by finding why it was originally that made me fascinated by the person/situation and keep that close to my heart. Also I talk it out...

Your giving out more insults than advice.

      The two aren't mutually exclusive.

So, if you consider American football a sport, does the same apply to synchronised homosexuality?

American football isn't a sport, it's a circus act. Synchronous homosexuality is an art. At least when it's done right.

If guns don't kill people, people kill people does that mean that toasters don't toast toast, toast toast toast?

      No, people toast toast.

Toast doesn't do shit except dry out my mouth.

What's one thing you want to do before the end of 2011?

Get a new job? Or better yet, just be content where ever I am. Even better. Oh and maybe have some fun, too. I've been hardcore slacking in that area of my life.

Dear Johnstant Vigilance, Art school in the middle of the recession, shameful day job after. What next?

This is what art schools fail to teach. You will have a day job after art school, try not to let it feel shameful. If by some miracle of talent, timing and luck you happen to be respectfully paid a livable wage in your field immediately upon graduation, be grateful and humble, for you are in a privileged minority.

I was researching genocide and found that there is a porn star called Jenna Cide. Is there any part of this that isn't deeply offensive?

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume Wikipedia was involved.

Hey dude, something I'm wondering - have you noticed that a lot of African Amarican people on comedy shows and sitcoms often play a boss who wants to get down to business, or a co-worker who wants to get down to business without goofing off?

Here's a little known secret about Black people: We are all about getting down to business. Anytime you see Jay-Z rapping or Barack Obama doing his President thing, or Rihanna being half-naked - that's a massive distraction - a conspiracy by Black people to keep everyone else from noticing us all secretly getting down to business (without goofing off). And business is a-boomin!

What book has spoken deeply to you?

This changes with life, so as for now, "The Gift of Therapy" and "Love's Executioner" both spoke very deeply to me. Both by Irving Yalom, an existential therapist genius. I am trying to find my theory and my place in the counseling world and both of these books really spoke to me. It's really pretty simple, but the basic philosophy is that people are trying to figure out the meaning of what happens in their life. I live my life this way and it has really helped me better understand my profession and what I'm trying to do... had you asked me this question 1-2 years ago, I guarantee it would be a different answer. Such is life! :)

What is the hardest thing to learn or accept in life thus far?

That I don't know the answers. That everything changes. That in the end I can only count on myself. That happiness is fleeting and not permanent. That relationships can be easily destroyed by miscommunication.... etc.

What song do you sing in the shower?

Ha none. I have philosophical discussions with myself in the shower. Not outloud though. Yes, that's a bit weird I suppose...
