depends. i'm not speaking for all females here, but.. if he was my boyfriend of a long time, there's a couple of reasons I [and just me] would ever ask for a break.

1. i'm not sure what i want.
2. i'm being crazy emotional, moody and maybe even "oh my god i don't deserve you"-ish
3.things are really complicated for both of us right now, and it's really hard to work out.

do i still love that guy? probably. most likely. if i asked for a 'break' and not a 'break up' [because there is a difference.] then i do still love him, if i didn't then i would completely cut if off and call it a breakup,[ permanent] ahaha idk wow. i didn't realize how complicated it was. but yeah. if it's a break..for me, it usually means i want to fix things, i just need time to figure out how.
breaks usually means i need to figure out more of what i want, and how to get it. breaks mean... should i keep going for it? how much do i want to fix things.

i'm usually not really into "breaks" or whatever 'cause it really doesnt fix things..but meh


what are the chances of it turning into a permanent break? ummmmmmmmmm... pretty high depending on the girl. if she didn't want to fix things, it could mean a permanent breakup. i can't really answer this just because relationships are all different. i wouldn't know unless i knew yours personally.
