I believe we should regulate the humane and socially acceptable treatment of animals. While I do not say we should to eliminate animal testing, we should encourage limited and animal-welfare-cautious practices. Additionally, we should not eliminate animals and animal products as food sources for non-vegetarians and non-vegans, rather we should improve the treatment of the animals involved.
The following sources help to support my claim:
Source 1: Dan Balbierz, CEO of BaroSense, Inc.
“Animals are essential in scientific research, medicine development, medical device development, and safety testing. They are necessary to understand the body in health and disease, and to develop new and improved medical treatments.
Tens of millions of human lives have been saved, and hundreds of millions of lives improved through medical technologies and medicines developed through the use of animal testing. The effect of testing is personal; very few people living today do not know someone whose life was saved, or whose quality of life vastly improved, through the results of animal research.
However, no one likes to use them in research, and no one should want to use them unnecessarily. Whenever possible, industry should strive to practice the three ‘Rs’: replace animal testing with non-animal models when possible, reduce the number of actual animals needed by using methodology which maximizes the information learned from each and every animal, and refine methods to alleviate or minimize potential pain or suffering, enhancing the animal’s welfare whenever possible.”
Source 2: “Farm to Fridge — The Truth behind Meat Production” video
“Farmed animals are every bit as intelligent, curious, and capable of feeling pain and suffering as the dogs and cats so many of us know and love. … By withdrawing our support of this cruel and violet system, we can put our ethics on the table and make a statement for a kinder and more compassionate society for all animals.”
Source 3: Document D (synthesis prompt), Jim Klinker, executive secretary of the AFBF and chairman on he CAFR
“Ultimately, animals that are treated humanely are productive animals, which benefits the farmers who raise them and consumers who demand safe, wholesome and affordable pork.”
Source 4: Barack Obama, during his campaign for president in 2008
"Federal policy towards animals should respect the dignity of animals and their rightful place as cohabitants of our environment. We should strive to protect animals and their habitats and prevent animal cruelty, exploitation and neglect... I have consistently been a champion of animal-friendly legislation and policy and would continue to be so once elected.”

There are six (6). Three (3) of them are in the thrice-repeated word "of" and are often missed because, when read, the word "of" had a "v" sound, not that of an "f"...
