Why do people personalize general questions? For example, If I say the U.S. went to war with Iraq the person will say, "That's not true! I didn't go to war with Iraq!" as if that invalidates the statement?

When it comes 2 "causes/movements" (i.e. Occupy Wall Street) not launched by us, Black folks tend to "fall in love" instead of adopting a philosophy of "hit it and quit it." Y do we constantly participate in the causes of others & not our own?
