My scariest experience was in Acapulco, Mexico. I was visiting a roadside zoo. There were all kinds of wild animals, some merely chained and others roaming freely.

There was a lion chained to a metal pipe and the boy that was showing us around, leaned over to pet it. He motioned for me to do the same.

I was very hesitant, but I was thinking, "What a great picture this will be!" So I crouched down near his back end and reached to pet him. A friend took the picture and as my arm was outstretched, he lunged at me and missed my arm by just a couple inches.

Needless to say, I had nightmares for weeks after that. I guess reality bit me... my children could have been motherless if he had gotten hold of me.
