I do see them as separate pursuits. Religion is a way to organize a group of people around a set of beliefs. Spirituality is another way of saying "curiosity and/or belief in things that are 'otherworldly'" and science is neither of those. It's a process and order by which we discover, analyze, and understand the universe we live in and how things work.
