Omg Mia, I apologize for not answering this soon enough. Apparently you asked this 9 months ago =/.
Nonetheless, I wanted to study in Hong Kong because I felt like it was in the middle of everything in Asia. It has a rich history beyond its liberation from the British colonial power but also through its connections with China, Taiwan and other neighboring countries.
I wanted to learn Cantonese because there is a great Cantonese-speaking group emerging in California and I ultimately want to spend my life in California and work in small communities and in analyzing how language connects people throughout the world. Cantonese is also fast disappearing unfortunately especially with the return of Hong Kong to China in the next 40 something years.
This university that I chose is also a big liberal arts school which houses one of the oldest Sociology departments out of Mainland China and Hong Kong. I wanted to participate in the discourse that surround my major in this part of the world. It's been amazing, if I may add!
Unlike other people, I didn't just come here to eat. Just sayin. -
My very last crush was Jann Michael... haha and I'm pretty much sure he knows but I honestly get over my crushes quickly. I don't dwell on them. Right now I don't have a crush/love/relationship interest in anyone. I have a crush on the work that I do and my school. :) No shame.

Love: people, the work that I do for the Pil-community, academic reputation, the weather, its location, the uprisings and protests, the urban-ish neighborhood, it being in the bay area, being close to SF, eating places, CalSO, co-curricular opportunities, the growing I've been able to do, etc.
Hate: people (lol), the work that I do for the Pil-community (LOL), the fact that I gain so much weight every academic year, waitlists, prevalence of ignorance still, the financial aid office/offer letters, late telebears appolntments, professors who don't care, rainy winters, rainy summers, SHADYNESS (refer to first "hate" haha), etc. -
The great majority of my makeup is from MAC. I also have things from Smashbox. So you'll probably find me either at the MAC counter or Sephora for my makeup.

This experience has taught me so effin much and it's not even close to being done yet. It has given me so much and I honestly don't know how to pay it back. It has involved me with different people and it gave me a different perspective on how to do a program and how to do different icebreakers and what I can take back to my community.
CalSO has reminded me how much of a political act this is. There are some students that go to CalSO who don't realize how much of a privilege an orientation is. Sometimes I just want to yell out the fact that some of my people can't even afford an orientation! rude.
I've never thought how much of a privilege access to a student counselor is and a college adviser. CalSO taught me that and its participants absolutely did.
Nonetheless the experience gave me so much and I'll do it again in a heartbeat. It has it's downs but I get over it and move on. I'll just suck it up and move on. -

Yes I am VERY self conscious. I used to be almost 300 lbs at 17 years old. I lifted a great amount of that weight but I've always thought it still stayed with me invisibly. I've taken a lot of comments about my "physical appearance", I don't think anything will affect me anymore. I still have a long way to go in accepting my beautiful self =).
Random fact about me: Whenever someone tells me I'm beautiful I never believe it. It works for me.

I don't really watch movies a lot nowadays... and even scary movies. I usually get too scared or I just close my eyes and let everything happen lol. Overall though, I haven't watched ANY movie.. IN A WHILE. Maybe we should go catch up and watch oneeeee! haha :D

My dad came up with all of his children's names. Apparently my mom didn't really care because then it would be just after her labor. So my dad would go all crazy with our names. My brother's name is Jowan, my sister is Raquelyn and my name is Glendie Lou. hahha. cute. So it's all my dad's experiment. =)
