No, it's no problem :) I took all my christmas and birthday money for the past two years (at the time) and saved it for my camera and kit lens, and then I bought my 50mm with birthday money and money from odd jobs.

50mm f1.8, definitely.
My only gripe is that it's too close sometimes, which is why I'd love to have a 30mm f1.4. Only problem is... I lack the cash flow. -
