Hello. I wonder about the pronunciation of the German suffix -ig. (e.g. hungrig) I know I've heard it pronounced differently by native speakers: -ich, -ik, -ig. Also the the suffix -ung. (e.g. Zeitung) I hear this pronounced sometimes -unk. Thanks.
True. Depending on the area, people pronounce it differently. However, the standard pronunciation for the "Hochdeutsch" is: "-ich"
As for -ung, you hardly hear the "g" cause the consonant combination "ng" is a nasal sound and therefore they "melt together" as one. I've never heard "unk" before - so that must be very rare. -
hey, what's the difference between Ausfahrt and Ausgang?
Hey :) Both can be translated with "exit". But here are the differences:
#1: the noun gender! It's DIE Ausfahrt but DER Ausgang.
#2: die Ausfahrt -> die Fahrt -> verb: fahren) = to drive
der Ausgang -> der Gang -> verb: gehen = to go
Examples: Die Ausfahrt auf der Autobahn. The exit on the highway. ; Nimm die Ausfahrt Nummer 11! Take the exit number 11.
Der Ausgang ist im Erdgeschoss. The exit is on the first floor.
So: Ausfahrt is an exit when you drive; Ausgang is an exit when you walk.
