Since I know your both, can you tell me more about blogging and tour guiding in general? How do you become one? Do you enjoy it? Sorry this is a lot of questions haha! thanks!
Sure I can!! So, I was a blogger before I was a tour guide. I was actually approached by my admissions counselor who ran the SMC blogs program at the time if I was interested in doing it, so of course I said yes!! Being a blogger coming into SMC was phenomenal because it helped me out so much with learning about SMC. You usually go through a one month preliminary trial of blogging and utilizing social media and then will hear back. Connecting with prospective students and families through social media outlets in general via blogger, twitter, formspring, facebook, etc. We also put on Knight Chats throughout the year, where prospective students and parents can have their questions answered by the bloggers. Blogging definitely helped me to be prepared for becoming a tour guide. Usually around February or March, tour guide applications will be available. You do go through an interview process as well and then will receive a response within a week. Tour guiding is wonderful because I get to meet students and families and speak to them one on one and show them around the beautiful SMC campus, whether it be during a weekly and weekend tours or during big open houses. I could not have asked for two better jobs- both of them allow me to connect with prospective students and families and help them to get a glimpse into why I love SMC and I hope they will too :)
If you're interested in blogging, I would definitely talk to Gabbi Hall, our Online Media and Communications Coordinator at ghall@mail.smcvt.edu. If you want to learn more about the tour guide process, I would also talk to Marci Wood, our Tour Guide Coordinator, at mwood3@mail.smcvt.edu. Good luck!! -
Is it true you and Marci the blogger met because of smc blogs? Do you have many blogger friends? I'm really interested in blogging and I want to know if I'll be accepted?
Yes, it is so true!! Marci and I, when we came to SMC, where the only girl First Year bloggers at the time. I was so nervous because I loved reading the blogs as a prospective student. When we had our first blogger meeting, Marci came in a little later and immediately shook my hand and said, "HI I'M MARCI!!" with a huge smile and then later on, sent me the nicest message about being excited to blog together and exchanging numbers. Two years later, she's one of my best friends in the world and I really don't know what I would do without her. She is just the best, makes me laugh hysterically, and is always there for me no matter what, so I'm really lucky I met her that day in Hoehl (SMC Admissions building :)
In regards to being interested in blogging, that is SO terrific!! I can totally understand how you feel, since I was in your shoes. I wanted to fit in with the SMC bloggers. To tell you the truth, I think I was even a little starstruck meeting Gabbi Hall, whose blog I read religiously during my senior year, and it's funny because now were friends and she is our wonderful SMC Blogs leader. The SMC Blogs team is something phenomenal to be a part of!! Not only are you learning about how to connect to prospective students via social media, you're also connecting with your fellow bloggers on how to best provide you're unique experiences to these students and families. Everyone is absolutely terrific and accepting, in general just a team I'm so lucky to be a part of :)
If you're interested in becoming a blogger, I would definitely contact Gabbi Hall, our Online Media and Comunications Coordinator at ghall@mail.smcvt.edu for more information!! Hope to see you on the team :) -
Just an fyi, John, Alex, and Gabbi are the best upperclassmen reps on 2015. They're keeping me sane through move in day. Thank you for giving them to us.
Did they pay you to say that? (or IS this John or Alex or Gabbi??) ;-) j/k
No they really are a great team and wonderful student ambassadors. In just a matter of WEEKS you'll be able to meet them, and the MANY other amazing students here at St. Mike's.

P.S. Who knows, a year from now YOU might be one of those ambassadors sharing your sage knowledge to the incoming class of 2016! -
Do you recommend a theme to a dorm room?
My roommate, Bri and I actually decided on a beach theme for our room, so we had sea shells, posters of the ocean, and quotes about the beach scattered around the room. The number one thing you definitely need to do is make your dorm your own, so if you and your roommate talk about and agree on a certain theme, than I think it's is a great way to do that :)

Why do are the bloggers retweet blogposts that other bloggers write?
As a person who does this all the time, I have to say it's because a) we love our school and b) the SMC Bloggers have a great support system. I know if I see one of my fellow bloggers who has a great new post up, I'm definitely going to share it with my followers, just so if they didn't get a chance to before (maybe they don't follow the blogger or @smcblogs on Twitter etc.) they have a chance to check it out now. We all have a unique perspective and tips for life at SMC, but we are all really similar in the fact that we are a team of bloggers that wants to get the word out and show prospective students and families what we like about Saint Mike's :)
honest opinion here: knight stand or alliot?
Hahahahaha this is a terrific question, really difficult though!! While I eat in Alliot (unlimited meal plan) every day and there is always so many great options to choose from for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the Knight Stand (pay with cash or Knight Card debit) is definitely my guilty pleasure and life saver, especially on a late night of studying when I want to pick up a buffalo chicken wrap. Both of them are really great, but if I had to choose- I'd probably go with the Knight Stand ;)

Who's the coolest person you know?
Alex Byrne and Marci Wood of course- they are my blogging role models!!

I've always wanted to tell you that you remind me of a Dad. But that's weird, so I've just told everyone else instead.
