Because being "normal" in the Hufflepuff context entails the very admirable qualities of hard work and camaraderie. This is what I thought when I housed myself back then. They don't see the other houses as imbalanced. They lack the competitive spirit other houses, yes, but this also makes them very real and united on their normalcy.
