Yes, but they'll probably be a bit different than before. Previously events weren't implicitly associated with a specific spot or location. We'd like to improve this one.

He'd tell you that as soon as Team Gowalla spends a few weeks cleaning up a few of the the messes they've made with the G4 launch that the iPad app is one of their highest priorities, but that they don't have a firm launch date. They'd like to believe it would be done in time for the holidays tho. :)

Thanks for the kind words. Hopefully we get to continue building away on our dream in Austin for some time to come. All my love to FB though, really like some of their new changes with Timeline.

The 4sq integration is a bug on our end. They recently rolled to a new version of their own API and because we were in the middle of our own roll out, we missed the switch. There's a good chance we'll have this up and running again today.
-
Looks like we've got a bug on this one, because it should be working that way. Ping @gowalla or our help email about this and be sure to let them know whether you're on iOS or Android.
-
It's there, but only if you search for a venue first. Enough folks have asked about this one, so we'll work to make this process a bit more clear in the future.

Sadly, beta testing iOS apps is a really difficult thing to do since you're limited to a fixed number of provisioning profiles per year. It's unfortunate we did not catch the Verizon bug earlier. We certainly tested it on a Verizon iPhone or three, but this one was fierce and it bit us in the butt.

Personally I like Camera+ a lot. We've always hesitated to put filters in Gowalla because there are so many other apps for that, but maybe one day we'll bake a couple in. :)

We have the same problem in Orlando too. Shocking, eh?
So we hear ya, and we're working on a fix to this one so that you're getting better spots, nearby, all the time. Thanks for being patient! :) -
It's not that I don't believe there's not value in a simple "check-in." We simply want to encourage a richer sort of interaction. I realize that this is not going to appear to everyone who's just looking for a check-in app.
Now that said, we realize that some of the new UI is a bit confusing to folks — so we're cleaning it up a bit to make it, well... Quicker and easier to understand. Thanks for being patience with us! -
He's still alive. Stay on the watch!

Facebook currently does not have an API for tagging friends in posts, but assuming they open that up at some point, we'd be happy to support it.
In regards to tagging on our own system, we want new users who have signed up via FB to have access to the stories that they've previously been included in, so they can manage their participation in those stories, and also receive credit for the places they've been. -
Yes, we're making a few UI adjustments to keep you from creating multiple stories. Look for some improvements soon! :)
-
Spot creators can be viewed on the web by clicking the map (I know, a bit obscure, right?). Founders have been deprecated for quite a bit of time now though we still of course have the data. It turned out it was confusing to most new users. :-/

A good question. We built Gowalla 4 on our own API. At some point we're going to drop down some of the changes we made up at the application layer down to the API layer — which will ideally form the basis for Gowalla API v2 (or whatever). In the interim our goal is to try to not break anything with the current API. Definitely stay in touch with our Dev mailing list for more.

About half of the check-ins previously on Gowalla contained comments, photos or both. The attention given to check-ins with photos was an order of magnitude greater than any other posts (not shocking, is it?).
Regard the wings place... I'm not sure it makes sense to create a story every time you go — especially if you go every day. BUT, if you're there with friends, add them to the story, take a few photos, and share the memory for everyone.
And at the very least tap the LOVE button at the wings place and leave a highlight telling others why you like it there. -

Yes, we are planning to do that. No timeline yet, but it's on the roadmap, and we'll retroactively reward them when we get there. :)

We did consider both of the above. Being a small team with a strong vision, we decided we only wanted to support a single application in the marketplace. We didn't quite get everything right on this first pass of 4.0, but we're working quickly to bridge the gap between 3 and 4.
And yes, look for the Gowallaby soon! You didn't really think he'd go anywhere, did you? :) -
Probably don't have an official schedule, but we'd like to see new guides added about every two weeks. Custom stamps are added quite often, almost daily.
-
A lot of our phone numbers are entered by venue owners or by our street team members and we're simply not applying a common format to the number — which, as your tendencies indicate, is something we need to do. I'm with you, it makes me twitch too.
