i designed all the elements on my blog, but the html coding behind it is totally not me! i'm not very code-savvy. the template is one that i got from smart & lovely awhile back and then (with my limited skills) i edited it to fit my needs. i'd actually really love to make some changes to it but can't seem to find the time and i'd obviously need a little help.
from what i understand there are a lot of free templates to be found around the internet. i bet if you did some google searches you'd find one that fit your needs!
wish i could be of more help! -
names are my favorite part! i'd be lying if i said my favorite part of being pregnant wasn't planning the names of my boys!
so here's the rundown of my multitude of business names:
marzipan inc. (www.marzipaninc.com) was based on a nickname my hubby gave me early on in our relationship.
shades of violet (www.shadesofviolet.com) was based off of my love for the name violet....since i had 2 boys and didn't plan to have any more, i figured i should use the name somehow!
fin+roe (www.finandroe.com) was named after my two boys: finley sage and rowan emerson.
fresh snapped photos: (www.freshsnappedphotos.etsy.com) this was drawn from my fin+roe brand where my tag line is "fresh snapped correspondence"
citrus+clover (www.citrusandclover.com - coming soon!) this was a majorly complicated decision but it originally started from of my love for the name clove. it evolved, and evolved, and evolved some more until it ended up being citrus+clover.
paisley wallpaper (www.paisleywallpaper.blogspot.com) my blog name came from the fact that my blog was going to be a mix of personal/business/kids, etc. my idea was that even though they were all different elements, hopefully they could come together to make something interesting....like paisley wallpaper....lots of different elements, but it all comes together to form a (hopefully) pleasing design.
aren't you glad you asked? ;) -
this is an interesting and tough question. i think it's definitely going to change more than it already has, but predicting how it's going to change is the challenge. i'll let you know when i figure it out! ;)

stuffed green peppers. my mom used to make me eat them as a kid and, to this day, i still can't stand the taste of green peppers. luckily i still love other pepper varieties, just no bell peppers! EVER!

hello! i designed the fin+roe website myself. i had help developing it from a couple people. i believe i had cartkeeper help with part and a friend helped with some other parts. (it's all such a blur now!) i use cartkeeper for the ecommerce portion and i process all of my credit cards myself through propay. hope that helps!

this is a seriously intense question! wow. i just did a post on scoutie girl (http://www.scoutiegirl.com/2010/01/am-i-successful.html) about what i thought success was. if i base it off that post i would have to title it "happiness=success".
-
wow. that's a really great question! since i have access to all of it, it's hard to say what i would pick! if i had to choose, i think i would probably be most drawn to the alphabet magnets for my kids to play with. http://www.finandroe.com/item.php?item_id=639&category_id=105

well, besides the holiday which is the obvious answer, i'd have to say that my favorite event is taking the boys to the movie theater. watching them experience movies for the first time on the big screen is so much fun. i find myself watching them, and their reactions, more than the movie itself.

let me see....as a child i was definitely creative. i think i had some for of art supply in my hand at all times. i was probably a little more of an extrovert than i am now. as an adult i think i'm a little shy in new situations. once i feel at ease though, all bets are off! ;) what i remember most as a child is playing for hours on end with my brother and neighbor boy outside in our yard and the woods behind our home.
my middle name....probably the most typical for a girl named lori....lynn.
good questions! -
wow, that's a tough question! there are a lot of difficult things that come with owning your own business. if i had to choose just one thing i think it would be the balance between work and family. i'm really horrible at it. i work way too much and i'm not good at just closing the laptop and ignoring it.
other things that are more business focused that are difficult (or non-enjoyable) for me include: accounting, inventory control, managing employees and my expectations of them, and cash flow.
thanks for the question! -
my name is lori and i'm a stationery designer and mother of 2 boys.

funny you should ask! the hubby and i have been seriously talking about moving somewhere with a more mild climate. i've got my heart set on portland.
if you're talking about anywhere in the world i would probably have to say italy. it's where a majority of both my family and my husband's family originated. i think it would be exciting to explore where our families came from. -
when thinking back, the things that stick out in my mind are all things that revolve around being with my extended family. i don't have one particular occasion that stands out, but things like holidays and camping trips all bring back very fond memories.

at the risk of sounding totally cheesy, here you go:
we met at a restaurant that we were both working at. he was a line chef in the kitchen and i had just started waitressing during my summer break from college. i was working an internship in a town i didn't really know and asked my bosses where i should get a job in town as a waitress. (because my internship didn't pay very much, i needed another night-job) i met him after my interview as the boss was taking me around to meet people. i was IMMEDIATELY drawn to him. he had really cool glasses and didn't look like the typical small-town guy. there's a long story behind our first date which involves him lying to me to get me to go, but after that date i called my mom and told her she better like him when she met him because i was going to marry him. the rest was history. totally cheesy, but totally true. ;) happy v-day story! -
i love t.v. i watch way too much. right now i'm obsessed with the olympics. other than t.v. i'd have to say the internet. very, very bad.
-
confused.
just like my home decor, i find myself drawn to both trendy items as well as vintage items. it's basically a mix of whatever catches my eye. -
thanks for the question carina....and the sweet comment about my photography. i have NO background in photography. i got a nice camera for my birthday a year and a half ago and have been learning as i go. i've learned a lot, but still have a long way to go. i really do enjoy it and hope that someday i fully understand my camera! ;)

this question is really depressing. since kids, we haven't really done any serious vacationing.
last year we took a weekend trip with my entire family to a water park for all the grandkids. (both of my kids screamed the entire time because they were afraid of the water).
every year we try to take a trip to minneapolis in the spring to see friends. we usually make it a 4 or 5 day trip.
last may the hubby came with me to the national stationery show in new york where i took a couple days to show him the city. (it was his first trip)
so, that's about it. nothing too exciting, but even a few days away from the office can be tough for me. i pay for it 10 fold when i return. hopefully that's something i'll be able to change in the next year or so. also, now that the boys are getting a little older it will be easier to pack them up and haul along(or leave them with grandma!). -
haha. as a mother yourself you already know how funny this question is, right? ;)
ok, in all seriousness, here's what my "typical" day looks like.
7:30 eat breakfast while i go over e-mail, facebook, twitter, and my most favorite blogs.
8:00 get to work! what i work on varies every day, but if there's anything to be shipped that day, shipping gets done first. then onto whatever other projects i have on the docket for that day. i work as much from 8:00 - 11:00 as my kids will allow. they're pretty used to our schedule so i'm typically able to log in a solid 2.5 hours in there. they spend the morning emptying their toy box and crafting. there's no t.v. allowed during this time.
11:00 make lunch. the little dude has to be to afternoon pre-school by noon, so our lunch is a little earlier than normal. they usually eat from 11:00 - 11:30 or so. depending on how busy i am that day i'll do 1 of 2 things while they eat. if i'm super busy i'll grab my laptop and bring it in the kitchen or if i can take a few minutes i'll try to do a quick sweep through the house picking up from the morning. (not that i pick up their messes, they're responsible for that)
12:00 take fin to school.
12:30 return home and put rowan down for a nap. now is the time i usually grab my lunch.
12:30 - 2:00 this is usually the "nap window" i have before rowan wakes up. sometimes it's much less. rarely is it ever more. i get a ton done during this hour and a half because i don't have either kid distracting me.
2:00 rowan wakes up and we have cuddle time on the couch. this usually lasts for 15-30 minutes depending on the day. he's not a good riser. he never wakes up happy so we take this time to adjust to being awake. (this was something that took a lot of getting used to! fin always woke up smiling and happy)
2:30 - 3:30 i usually let rowan watch 1 cartoon between when he wakes up and when fin gets off the bus. this allows me a little extra time to get more done.
3:30 - 4:00 sometime in here fin gets off the bus and the boys have a snack.
4:00 the boys typically chill in the afternoon with a movie of their choice. depending on what i'm planning for supper i either get started with dinner if it's something from scratch, or squeeze in another half hour or so of work before i re-heat leftovers on those nights.
5:15 daddy comes home and we have dinner
5:45 - 6:30 this is usually daddy time. since i've had the boys all day he usually takes over so that i can have some silence for awhile. i take this opportunity to work some more.
6:30 - 7:15 daddy does nightly routine. baths, books, etc. so after dinner, i'm pretty much "off-duty". during the nighttime routine i usually accomplish a ton as well since they're upstairs and it's actually quiet.
7:30 daddy comes downstairs. we plop on the couch and watch t.v while i continue to do whatever needs to be done for that day. (thank god for laptops!) i usually call it quits at about 9:00 or so. i may still be on the computer, but typically not working.
10:00 - 11:00 i'm an early-to-bed kinda gal. i head up and get ready for bed.
and then it starts all over again. -
ummm....what? it's v-day? oops!
we're not really doing anything. i am taking the afternoon off on friday so i can volunteer in fin's classroom for their v-day party. other than that we have no plans. yeah, we're lame.
maybe the hubby and i will catch a movie?? we should probably start thinking about that, huh?
