For just a regular training ride (ie. not including show prep or group lessons), I really don't think a horse ever needs to be worked more than like 45 min, especially if they're green. If you're on them for an hour or more, they're not going to retain everything you've worked on. You're not going to fix everything in one ride, so set a couple of reasonable goals and know when to call it quits.

Not if they could still be a pasture/companion horse without pain.

Yes. I am VERY aware of my weaknesses and bad habits lol and I always know I've done something wrong about half a second after doing it lol.

Yeah. I didn't get dragged very far, only like 2 strides, but I tore a ligament in my foot.

Singles. If you find the in to a line with a good pace, you'll find the out, so you really only need to practice singles (except with greenies who maybe need to work on waiting in lines or straightness in lines).

Kelpie and Mocha are. Kelpie makes a ridiculous fuss at feed time and nickers any time he hears anything that could possibly mean someone has food. Mocha nickers to her friends when you bring them wherever she is and she usually nickers hello to us when she's outside.
