Strive to understand other people. Really, sit down and listen to their life story--everyone has something to say if you give them a chance to say it. Figure out what they've lived through and why they've made the life choices they have. When someone disagrees with you, let them explain why.

Also, help other people understand *you*. Figure out what you stand for and what you want in life, and make that clear to other people. Don't be wishy-washy. Find your truths and believe in them.

You don't have to be friends with everyone else, but at least give them the benefit of the doubt at first. Try to see the good things in people you don't like.
