If Minneapolis/St. Paul was the central location of a zombie uprising but you were lucky enough to escape, where would you move? by briannepitt
That's a tough one. I'm quite partial hanging out around Midwesterners, but there aren't all that many cities in the Midwest in which I'm dying to live.
I LIKE Chicago, but it's a little intense for me. Then there are the Dakotas, Iowa, Kansas, etc., which seem to be WAY too far on the other end of the spectrum.
So I guess it'd probably be Milwaukee. I like the city, my family's nearby, and they're getting a smoking ban this summer (my #1 complaint every time I go home to visit).
And now we've probably gotten my parents all excited for no reason. Thanks a LOT, Internet.
Do you have more fun as a blonde or brunette?
That's actually really difficult to say. I tend to drastically change my hair whenever I'm going through a major life change, but, as life changes go, some of them were good, others not so good.
I DID realize sort of recently that I tend to be in a relationship when I'm blonde and single when I'm a brunette (which was also sometimes good, sometimes not so good), but all that means is that I seem to be more alluring as a blonde.
In conclusion, I have fun ALWAYS. So there.
Good choice on Data for favorite TNG character. Now, which main character is your LEAST favorite? (If Wesley, post two. Wesley is too easy a choice)
You know what? I DON'T hate Wesley Crusher, and I kind of like his season 1 rainbow sweater. So you all can suck it.
So now that I've alienated both Star Trek fans (who hate him) and non-Star Trek fans (who are confused), I'll address the actual question.
First, I totally hate all Ferengi. They're like really offensive caricatures of Jews . . . in SPACE! And I hate them. They are demented. Their values are insane.
However, I'm assuming this question refers to someone in the main cast, so I'm going to have to go with Riker. Now, it's not like he actively BOTHERS me, but he doesn't really do anything for me.
This is not a question, I just want to commend you on having 5 tags for farts. That's pretty awesome.
Thanks. You should also check out such popular tags as "Poop" (11 posts) and "Hoo Has" (21 posts).
What's your longest running distance now?
Five miles so far. You can read all about that triumph here:

My "official" 12-week training starts on Sunday, so I'll be breaking that record on a weekly basis soon!
Hey, what happened to the Art and Emily metblog?
Well, we both got pretty busy, and trying to find something to do that we could write about, then doing it, then actually writing about it, was starting to feel like more of a chore than it should have.
We did have a fun time writing together and have talked about collaborating on something else in the future, but right now Art's not really taking on any new projects unless they're paid since, you know, there are bills to be paid and the man's gotta work.
So if you're interested in paying Art (or both of us) to write something, this is a good place to start: http://artallen.net. Otherwise, you might have to wait until life slows down a little bit or Art becomes super wealthy.
How is your half-marathon training going?
Well, I don't "officially" start the 12-week training program I chose until Sunday. (Happy Valentine's Day to me!)
The whole running thing is still going pretty well though, and since I picked a nice, easy "novice" training schedule, I don't expect to truly start hating it for another month or so.
I'll be sure to keep you guys updated as my training gets more intense.
Do you think Bernard will miss being tortured by Kurth?
It's hard to say. Bernard is pretty pleased with ANY form of attention and will come running back for more no matter what you do to him, so I think he likes having Kurth around even if he's shoving him into a Michelob Golden Light (ew) box.
However, he's going to have Art and another cat (assuming Triskit doesn't go into permanent hiding to avoid him) to pay attention to him, so I think he'll be okay.
How'd you wind up in Minneapolis? (Short time reader! Don't get mad!)
I'm not sure if I've ever really written about it, so don't worry, Short Time Reader Who I'm Not Mad At.
I moved here in May 2007 about a week after I graduated from UW-Madison. I'd just accepted an internship at a local PR firm that, as it turns out, would make me sort of miserable.
Anyway, right after graduation, I bought a car from a friend, packed it up with all my worldly possessions that would fit into a Honda CR-V and hit the road.
And I've been here ever since.
If you could grow a beard and enter the contest, how would you style it?
Get with the program, anonymous question asker! Ladies are totally allowed to enter the Minnesota Beard-Off in the freestyle category!
http://mnbeardoff.com/the-categories
Also, did you see the judges? Because there are awesome judges.
http://mnbeardoff.com/the-judges
BUT, to answer the question in the spirit in which it was intended, I would go with a full beard. When it comes to facial hair, I'm very "all or nothing."
Who is your favorite Star Trek The Next Generation character, and why?
That's actually a really difficult question because I have two characters that I greatly enjoy: Data and Worf.
And what makes this so hard is that my absolute favorite part about both of these characters is their interactions with each other, particularly when they share knowing "those crazy humans and whatever they're up to now" glances.
So for a while I was leaning toward Worf because of that one time he said "You may now give birth" to Keiko O'Brien, but then again, he had that episode where he dressed like a ninja and tried to make the colony of peace-loving Klingons more belligerent.
Data, on the other hand, provided me with more regular comic relief and "straight man" value, so I think I'm going to have to go with Data.
Yep, Data.
Steamed or Fried?
Well, after the asker of this question identified himself and confirmed that it is, indeed, about dumplings, then I'd have to say steamed.
Though I like them very much in either form.
Why don't the comments I leave on your blog ever show up?
I don't know! Is this happening to anyone else?
Though I guess if it IS, you can't tell me. Alas.
Aside from beer, what is your most favorite alcoholic beverage?
Vodka! Which is kind of strange because while I like my beer to have as much taste as possible, I like my liquor just the opposite way.
Also, you can mix it with nearly everything, so it's a good "go-to" booze to have around the house.
Everybody wins!
Since Art started geekifying you what has been your favorite new hobby? by dezactual
Wow, everyone wants to know about Art!
I'm not sure if the geekification has resulted in any geeky "hobbies" unless TV and movie watching count as hobbies.
I mean, it's not like I've joined any d20 campaigns as of late (though I now totally know what d20 means AND recently explained what GURPS was to someone); I've just been watching a lot of geeky programming.
So far I've watched:
-The entire series of Star Trek: The Next Generation
-The new Star Trek movie, which wouldn't be that geeky if I hadn't seen it in the theater three times
-All of the older Star Trek movies through Generations (with plans to continue), that Art has deemed worth watching
-The entire series of Battlestar Galactica
-Season 1 of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Next up (I believe) is Firefly.
What criteria do you use to determine what to include in Twin Cities Thursday?
Hmm . . . well, there's the fact that it has to be written by someone from or living in the Twin Cities or, on some occasions, about something going on here.
Other than that, I don't really have any specific criteria besides "things I find interesting." Which could mean I find it funny or sad or inspirational or what have you. Usually funny though.
The one challenge to this, however, is that it has to be from a blog I follow/am aware of, and I'm sure there's all sorts of good local stuff out there that I'm missing.
So if anyone has a suggestion of something I should be paying attention to, let me know here!
Ohh...I ask who your favorite Auntie is and don't get my question answered! So, do you miss your Auntie Mimi a lot? I know I miss you!
Yes, I miss you Auntie Mimi, calm down!
You're always welcome to come visit me!
Do you miss your friend Katie a lot?
I sure do. She should probably move back to Minneapolis so I can start Katie Tuesday back up again.
There are children to teach here too, you know.
How do you and Art plan to split up the household chores?
That's something we've been talking a bit quite a bit lately and probably something we need some help with.
See, the problem is that we're both pretty gross, and while we aspire to become NOT gross, we're not really sure how to go about doing that.
As far as the actual chore splitting goes, I think we're leaning toward specialization and each having specific responsibilities rather than each doing half of everything, but beyond that, if someone has some strategies for us to become NOT gross people without getting in a giant fight or nagging each other, I'd love to hear them.
If you were given $10,000 and told you had to spend it all in 24 hours, what would you do?
This would be incredibly difficult for me because I am a cheap money-hoarder who would be happy to keep all her money stuffed in a mattress. (But I don't, so don't break into my apartment!)
But let's define the situation. Is this like that movie Brewster's Millions where I'm not allowed to have anything tangible to show for the money? In that case, I'd probably spend it flying somewhere warm and eating a lot of beautiful, fancy meals.
If I was allowed to buy tangible items, I'd probably put it toward a used Honda Accord or something glamorous like that.
Sigh. I'm boring.
