My next book will be coming out in 2012, and it's called Miracle. It's about a girl who is the only survivor of a plane clash. First line: "When I woke up the sky was burning." :-)

I did! I thought this one guy was insanely hot all through hs, but never worked up the nerve to even *talk* to him. It's just as well though, because he got arrested for arson right after we graduated and went to jail (!!!)

Thanks so much for being so sweet about my books! I've been inspired by a lot of thing--from scrubbing toilets (!) to hearing/reading something to dreams. Basically I just try to keep my eyes and ears open at all times, and if something sounds like it might be something I'd want to write about, I take notes (I always carry a notebook with me--I even keep one by my bed!)

Oh, you are too sweet! In NYC, I'll be doing the following:

May 22nd--Teen Author Panel at Books of Wonder, NYC starting at 1 PM--and yes, you will be able to purchase Between Here and Forever then! (I will be reading from the book here)

May 23rd-Teen Author Carnival with loads of awesome YA authors at the Mulberry Branch of the NYPL starting at 4 PM-- Plus there will be candy and (fingers crossed!) books as well! It's a very informal thing, a great chance to hear panels (I'm not sure which one I'll be on yet) and then hang out with loads of fab authors.

May 25th--I'll be signing at BEA in Booth 3774 starting at 10:30 AM--supplies are going to be quite limited, so be sure to get there early!*

May 27th--I'm going to be on a Speed Dating panel at the Book Blogger Convention! I'll be on starting at 1 PM (location TBA, although it'll be in Javits)

I'm hoping that some other stuff will come up, and if it does, I'll be sure to let everyone know :-)

*I've been getting a lot of emails about ARCs of As I Wake, and there will not be any at BEA. There may be some at ALA. If you want one, I'd suggest you get in touch with your Penguin/Dutton contact and ask for one, as I don't know if they are going to do a blogger mailing.

Wow, it's been years since I've even seen a crayon--now I want to go out and buy some! Let me see what colors they have now...ooh, I think I have to go with Razzmatazz for the name alone!

When I was really young, I loved Eloise, Winnie-the-Pooh and Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle (I SO wanted to have carrots growing on me like that girl who wouldn't take a bath--I didn't realize that you're not supposed to want vegetables growing on you!) and when I was in middle school, Judy Blume? LOVE! And when I was older, I went straight to adult books because, at least where I lived growing up, the YA that was available was so not like my life or the life of anyone I knew! (I rediscovered YA in the late 1990s and WOW! It had changed and for the SO MUCH better! I've been hooked ever since :-)

PS Sorry it's taken so long for me to answer this!!

All of them? WOW! And thank you :-) As for sequels, none are planned at this time but Between Here and Forever does have two characters from my first novel, Bloom that I think readers will be surprised (and hopefully, happy!) to see...

As for writing advice, I'm so not qualified to give any, because I pretty much fell into writing, but I guess if there's one thing I'd say it's this: Read. Read as much and as often as you can--and not just in the genre you want to write it. Try a little bit of everything!

    9. Elizabeth Scott

The first time I saw Bloom in a bookstore, I just stood there and stared because I couldn't believe it! And then (true story!) I had to ask someone to take a picture of me with it because my cell at the time didn't even take pictures!

And honestly, I still get that "What am I doing here?" moment whenever I see one of my books somewhere--I'm just so lucky to get to do what I do, and it's all thanks to great readers like YOU :-)

Thanks for the kind words about Stealing Heaven! However, I'm sorry to say it's not likely that there will be a sequel to it :-(

    11. Elizabeth Scott

Thanks so much for the kind words about my books! And no, I didn't know I wanted to be a writer--I never wrote a word of fiction (except that which I was forced to write in school/college) until I was 27. (!) I really just fell into writing, and I'm so glad I did!

As for my favorite authors--too many too list! I love reading, and I love so many authors and books that my house actually is starting to look like a library!

    12. Elizabeth Scott

Answering your question :-) No, seriously, I'm checking to make sure I know when all my doctor's appointments are this week and working on deadlines. (Right now it's for my Pulse 2012 book...)

    13. Elizabeth Scott

Being a writer is awesome when I'm writing (I love first drafts! Revisions--well, let's just say by the fourth one I hate the book and everyone in it :-) But the really awesome thing is hearing from people who've read my books. It's the most amazing feeling, and I'm so grateful that people not just read my books, but then write/tweet/fb/etc me abut them!

Oh, you are so sweet--and! it looks like I will be in both Dallas and Houston this spring--I'll be at the Houston TeenBookCon on April 9th, and then will be signing books at a location TBD in Dallas shortly afterward--I hope to see you at one of the events! (And you all out there as well! :-) (I'll post more information as I have it)

I don't know why this hasn't shown up, MsJorday 14, but let me try again...

Not as many as I'd like to! I usually sign during BEA, the big book expo that will be held in NYC this year, and I will be doing some events in Houston and Dallas and hopefully Austin in May, and maybe--maybe--out touring this fall, although that's up in the air.

I would LOVE to do more book signings, but until I have a book that hits the Times list, it's probably not going to happen simply because it makes more sense for publishers to have signings where they know lots of people will show vs. ones that people won't

So! I've got my fingers crossed that one day I'll be able to say "Yes, I'm going on tour!!" (And if you want to cross your fingers too, that would be great :-)

Does healing count as one? Probably not, but I pick it because I'm sick of being sick, and if I could snap my fingers and be better--I'd SO do it!

What would my teenage self think of me? Well, since I HATED anything that was non-report writing, I think my teen self would be shocked that I'm writing fiction--though I do think she'd be happy I'm writing YA since there wasn't a whole lot of good stuff available to me then (I grew up in the Dark Ages ;-)

Also, when I was a teenager, I was never ever EVER going to get married, so she'd probably be pretty shocked that I met my husband when I was 18 (!)
