Honestly, probably a lot. If you were just running a desk lamp, it shouldn't be THAT different from just plugging the lamp into an equivalently long extension cord, which can get to 100 feet, easy. The problem would be if you got greedy about running a whole slew of devices off of all those extra outlets you've left along the way. Each new device draws a bit more current, and eventually you trip your 15 A circuit breaker. (Most surge protectors have fuses, anyway; they're probably trip earlier than that.)
