I'd get the 500D over the 500D because I'm Asian and value for money is important. If money were no issue for lenses I would get an EF 16-35mm f2.8L II USM lens and a EF 70-200mm f2.8L IS II USM lens!

But I currently use only prime lenses a EF 20mm f2.8 USM (absolutely my favourite lens and range) and an EF 100mm f2.0 USM for those longer shots.

Not much different from the 500D. The 550D has more redundant megapixels (there's only so much you can fit onto the same sized sensor) and faster full HD recording. FPS rate is increase by just 0.2 FPS. Makes me wonder if Canon is struggling to come up with a new meaningful range of camera's.
