Two things that I've been told ad nauseum are 1) not to miss out on traveling to other countries while I'm young, because it's different once you're older, and 2) in the same vein, STUDY ABROAD because you will surely regret not studying abroad once you're out of college.

Because my four-year plan doesn't allow for studying abroad during the semesters, I decided to do so during one of my summers. I don't think it's any more hassle than deciding to vacation in Europe, which many people do; and it may even be less hassle because I don't have to worry about booking hotels, finding tour packages, etc. In fact, many things in life are a hassle, who are you to put down this one thing over another?

Hopefully, as many people are telling me, it will be worth it, and it'll be a life experience I'll treasure forever.

Besides, it means I have something meaningful and exciting to do with my summer, because if you know me at all, you know that sitting around doing nothing makes me hate myself.

I'm not playing a Beethoven piece right now, unless you count chamber music.

A week or so to get all the notes (practicing on-and-off), and a few weeks to get it comfortably fast.

I worked on my recital repertoire and taught a lot of students in order to pay for my new Macbook Pro (my old computer was dying and I needed a proper tool for design work.)

Keep your hand as vertical and rigid as possible, and make sure the edges of the key are hitting your nail. This is just from personal experience. :) Other pianists may have other suggestions!

I wouldn't really know, since I've never been to Europe, but I've been told that you can get around without knowing much of the language.

Summer music festivals and a summer study abroad program, all in Europe! I'm a little hesitant to say exactly what programs because I'm afraid to jinx myself.

If you're talking about the penguin toy from Toy Story 2, I really liked his rendition of "You've Got a Friend In Me."

I like both! They're so different and varied that you can't really say one is "better." I like colored pencils because of the texture and detail you can get from them, but it can be frustrating covering a large area evenly. I like colored pencils to sketch/doodle/design though cause they're so convenient. Watercolor pencils sort of bridge the gap between pencils and paint.

For paint, there are so many different kinds (watercolor, oil, acrylic, gouache, etc.) that each have their own advantages and tendencies so it's kind of hard to lump them all under the word "paint." I personally like watercolor because it's so versatile and fluid, and I like oil because it's so easy to cover up your mistakes :P though it takes forever to dry. (Gouache is like a faster-drying, more opaque+matte watercolor, and acrylic is like a faster-drying, waterier oil.) So really the media I use depends on my mood and level of patience, and in general watercolor is my favorite.

      Whew, long answer!

Evgeny Kissin, Yuja Wang, Martha Argerich, Frank Wiens! I also saw Manahem Pressler in recital and he was really cool too. By this week Martha will be the only one I haven't seen live! I also like recordings by Baremboim, Richter, Horowitz, and Rubinstein.
