I'm not really an expert on the economic climate in SG right now, but I would imagine that with the world in such a sorry state now, SG would be affected to some extent and this could affect the number of jobs. I guess I'm just really thankful that I will have a job once I graduate.

      hello!

haha my hair isn't professionally done actually? just a basic hair cut at any hair salon -- i go to the one near my place -- and a DIY dye job. Yep!

Haha to tell you the truth, I don't really socialize with my students. I'm nice and approachable but I draw the line when it comes to spending time socially with them. So, no questions like that normally wouldn't come up in the classroom context, where I'm too busy teaching and making sure they learn something
      useful. (:

If you have to ask, then I doubt that I'd want you to know anyway. ;)

Hmm it really depends on what you mean by "future".

If you're talking about the year after you get retained then of course there're going to be changes. New class, new teacher, new learning environment. You'll probably have a few adjustment issues and maybe even feel sad or disappointed with yourself, (or envious of yoother-classmates) for not having been
promoted. But as long as you try to maintain a positive attitude and realize that this is not a condemnation but rather a cherished second chance to start over, and you really work hard this time round, things will be alright, Godwilling.

If you're talking about University or post-grad when you're looking for a job, then I think these places look at your final A-level certificate and the grades that you obtained there, rather than on your internal promotional exams. I mean, different JCs have different standard of
exam papers right, so it's not fair to judge based on that. That's what the A-levels are for -- a means of standardization (:

Don't worry too much about it dear, just do your best, put in all that you've got and leave the rest to the Big Man (: <3 All the best!

Hmm I don't normally spend a lot on clothes, but if it looks good on you and it's the type that you can wear many times in years to come then why not?

      Wow. Seriously, just...wow.

Firstly, your code-switching and language seems to suggest an underlying need to assert your thoughts in a way that is pathetically
vulgar. You see, civilized and educated people don't see the need to resort to such extremities to get their point across. Obviously, you're neither. However, if I were to respond in a similar fashion, this would probably be it : mind your own fucking business, you cheebye fucking coward.

And don't you dare call me "D" when you obviously don't even have the guts to leave your own name.

Yeah, they do actually. I think it'd be pretty irresponsible of any institution to put their reputation above the educational needs of its students and thankfully, RJ isn't like that at all.

      hello (:

Wow...that's a huge question...I'm not sure if I'm qualified to answer that, actually.

I think there're two parts that overlap to this question? A level dropout or J1 retainee, right?

I personally feel that the A levels are the hardest examinations that I ever took in my life, so I completely understand and empathize with the devastation that follows someone not clearing them or not getting a full Cert.

If by "point of view", you're asking me what exactly someone in that position should do, I think there are a few options available. That person could either re-take the As as a private candidate, enroll in a Polytechnic to get a diploma or take private courses at private institutions (MDIS, PBA, UniSim etc). Of course all these options have pros & cons to them, so the person would need to weigh them out carefully and take into account his own situation, whether financial or otherwise.

As for being retained after J1, I think this too should be thought out properly by the person. I have friends who have been retained and that one extra year helped a lot in preparing them for their A levels. Similarly, I know of people who chose to take a different route and withdraw from JC to either go to Poly or other private schools. Again, it really depends on the individual's situation and needs.

Hope that helps (: All the best!

      Hello (:

Nope a bachelor's is actually the basic degree. Mine is Bachelor's with Honours, so that's kind of like extra credit for doing an extra year. So bachelor's are normally 3 years, if you take Honours it's 4 years. Whether you take Honours or not depends on either your course (some courses like mine automatically offer straight Honours) or your GPA (if you do well enough in your year 3, you can go on and do year 4).

So every undergrad is actually pursuing a Bachelors in something, be it Arts, Science, Engineering, Medicine etc. Mine is a Bachelor of Arts (Education) as I major in Education. (:
