Bidah in English means Innovation. There are two types of innovation, religious and secular. Secular innovation is good because innovation in technology, medicine, education, etc. helps society advance forward and succeed. Innovation in religion means introducing new concepts, ideas and practices that are not part of the religion. This type of innovation or bid'ah is basically akin to changing the religion by introducing new matters into it.
In the last Khutbah of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), he said "Be my witness, O ALLAH, that I have conveyed your message to your people”.
Those who engage in bid'ah are basically saying that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not completely convey the message of Islam and they think more stuff needs to be added. Also, they are saying that Allah lied (nauzbillah) when He said:
[5:3] “This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favors upon you, and have chosen for you, Islam as your religion.”
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) warned us about this when he said:
“…Beware of newly invented matters, for EVERY invented matter is an innovation and EVERY innovation is a going astray, and EVERY going astray is in Hell-fire.” [Abu Dawud & At-Tirmidhi]
Ignorant and stubborn ones try to justify their bidah by calling it Bidah hasana or good bidah, and they also try to justify it by saying why do you drive, use technology, etc., that is bidah too!
Below are few small readings that elaborate on what is bidah.

Wa'alaikum as'salaam,
Dream interpretation is 40th part of Prophethood. It is not something anyone can interpret correctly. In Islamic studies, there are scholars who specialize in this area and are best to go to. inshallah email ustadh Yahya Ibrahim on yahyaibrahim@hotmail.com and see if can help you on this.

The only acceptable way for sexual satisfaction in Islam is a lawful "marriage". One of the objectives of marriage is to protect both spouses against indulgence in unlawful sexual practices that may lead to corruption and immoral acts [such as prostitution, fornication and adultery or else] in the society. Allah states in Quran, Sura Baqarah (2:187): “ They are your garments and ye are their garments”.
Regarding intimate matters, what the Quran states is: Your wives are a tilth for you, so go into your tilth when you like, and do good beforehand for yourselves, and be careful (of your duty) to Allah, and know that you will meet Him, and give good news to the believers.
The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "Allah is not ashamed to state the truth. So, do not have sex with women in their anuses" . [ al-Nasae from Khuzaimah al-Suyooti says it is good].
Another Hadith reads: "Whoever has sex with his wife in her anus is cursed" . [ Abu Dawood from Abu Hurairah, al-Albani says it is sound].
From the Quran and the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), it is clear that other than anal sex, everything else is game so long as it does not cause harm to yourself or your partner in any way. That is the base line. After that, whatever is done should be according to the Islamic Etiquette of proper intimate conduct.
You can read about that here: http://islamqa.com/en/ref/5560/
Should the behavior be deemed harmful to the husband or wife then it can be ruled as haram (impermissible). So if looking at specific behaviors, like the one you mentioned, it would depend on the behavior and any harm it can cause in any way, be it physical, mental or psychological and checking with the scholars on the matter. I can tell you now that urethral play would be deemed haram by the scholars because of the harm it causes and the unnaturalness of such behavior.
Intimacy in Islam is seen in three ways. First, it is a means of procreation; second, it is a means of pleasure; third, it is worship. The first two are clear as they part of human nature. The third is that Islam looks at the proper use of the sex as an act of worship, Ibadah. A Muslim would be rewarded when he practices this act, as he is rewarded when he does any other acts of prescribed types of worship. Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) alluded to this concept when he said, which reads as follows: “ [A Muslim] would have an intercourse with his spouse ad would be rewarded for it. The Companions (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: Oh Messenger of Allah! A person would be rewarded while satisfying his sexual need? Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied: Yes. Isn't it that he would be punished had he practiced sex illegally? The same applies if a Muslim practiced a lawful intercourse with his spouse. As such, he would be rewarded” -
I think it's not as much as the limit as it is the manner, intention, purpose and health issues behind it. Clearly piercings are done for self-adornment, number of piercing may vary culture to culture and customs to customs, but the question you have to ask is at what point does it stop becoming an act of adornment and start appearing as an unattractive freak.
The link below explains when piercing can become haram.

There really isn't one specific one since all of it is full of wisdom and which one you feel stronger for depends on your mood and need of the hour and reaches out to you the most.

(al-Baqarah 2: 111-12) -
Love is a feeling, an emotion that can be a force of good or evil. All religions promote love, peace and compassion but none more so than Islam.
It is with mercy and compassion that the Messenger of Allâh was sent. And it is with mercy and compassion that he treated all his opponents and companions alike. Mercy is an attribute of Allâh. He is the Compassionate, the Merciful. And He is Kind with His creatures. He sent His Messenger with kindness and He says,
“And We have sent you (O Muhammad (peace be upon him)) not but as a mercy for all the worlds.” (Al-Anbiyâ 21:107)
The Prophet also brought the law of Islâm based on the principle of compassion. Allâh says,
“Verily, there has come unto you a Messenger (Muhammad (peace be upon him)) from amongst yourselves (i.e. whom you know well). It grieves him that you should receive any injury or difficulty. He (Muhammad (peace be upon him)) is anxious over you (to be rightly guided, to repent to Allâh, and beg Him to pardon and forgive your sins, in order that you may enter Paradise and be saved from the punishment of the Hell-fire); for the believers (he peace be upon him is) full of pity, kind, and merciful.” (At-Tawbah 9:128)
Compassion breeds love and affection among people. Compassion is a delight of the heart and the way to Paradise. The Messenger of Allâh said,
“People of Paradise are three: (1) a leader who is generous, spends in charity and is guided to the right course; (2) a man who is compassionate, kind to every relative and every Muslim and (3) a poor person who is virtuous and has dependants.” (Muslim)
Compassion softens the heart and leads man to be kind to even animals and birds. Abdullâh bin Mas‘ûd said,
“We were with the Messenger of Allâh on a journey. While he went to ease himself, we saw a redstart [1] with two chicks and we took them. The redstart then came, spreading out her wings. When the Messenger of Allâh arrived (and saw the bird) he said, “Who bereaved this with her children? Return her chicks back to her.” (Abû Dâwûd)
Abdullâh bin Ja‘far narrated that the Messenger of Allâh entered the compound of an Ansârî man. And there here was a camel there. When the camel saw the Prophet, it longed for him, groaned and shed tears. The Messenger of Allâh approached it and wiped off its tears and it became quiet. He then said,
“Who is the owner of this camel? ” Who is the owner of this camel?” A young Ansârî man came and said, “It is me O Messenger of Allâh!” The Prophet then said, “Won’t you fear Allâh as regards this animal which Allâh put under your possession? It complained to me that you starve it and overburden it.” (Abû Dâwûd)
This is the Prophet’s reaction to the maltreatment of animals. Imagine how he would have reacted to a person who harmed humans, usurped the rights of the poor and did not treat children and old people with compassion. The Prophet said,
“Allâh will show mercy to those who show mercy to people. Show mercy to those who are on the earth, the One Who is in the Heaven will show mercy to you.”
Compassion is a sign of humility. It also removes arrogance. Compassion means doing good to all, assisting the needy and being kind to the kith and kin. It also entails showing sympathy for the weak, the sick, the disabled and the orphans by making them happy. Compassion entails helping the wronged and reining in the devilish people. Compassion means feeling concerned about the affairs of fellow Muslims, sharing their pains and aspirations and coming to their aid. It also entails enjoining good, forbidding evil, and teaching the Muslims the goals of being compassionate. The Messenger of Allâh said,
“The example of me and you is like that of a man who kindled a fire. Grasshoppers and butterflies start falling into the fire and the man continue protecting them against it. I am holding you back from falling into the fire and you are slipping off my hand.” (Al-Bukhârî and Muslim)

In some families and cultures, girls begin to wear the hijab at puberty simply out of family, peer, or societal pressure. Some girls decide, on their own, to start wearing the hijab even before the age when it is required of them. It is becoming more common for families to leave the decision about hijab up to the young girl herself. They may try to educate her about her Islamic responsibilities, but ultimately they allow her to make the choice when she fully understands and feels ready to commit to the decision. It is not something that should be forced upon others, rather the adults should educate the girls when they are young on the importance of hijab and Allah’s command in the Quran about wearing hijab. When a person is educated on the topic, they are more likely to make the choice willingly then be forced to do so.
In Islam, all individuals become responsible and accountable for their behavior at the age of puberty. The Islamic teachings about modest dress apply to any person, male or female, at that time. So soon as you hit puberty you were considered an adult in Islam and will be responsible for your actions from that day on. Since you become an adult by that age, the hijab becomes obligatory from that point on as well. People say it’s their “choice” but only choice they have is whether they want to obey Allah and follow His commands or disobey Him and do as they wish.
Ayesha (r.a) reported that Asma’ the daughter of Abu Bakr (r.a) came to the Messenger of Allah (s) while wearing thin clothing. He approached her and said: 'O Asma’! When a girl reaches the menstrual age, it is not proper that anything should remain exposed except this and this. He pointed to the face and hands." [Abu Dawud]
When you start 9th grade, you will be starting a new school year in a new school. Everything will be new at that time. All the upper classmen have never seen you before. It would be an easier choice to make doing hijab going into 9th grade. At 10th grade, everyone in the school would have seen you without hijab and would already know what you look like under. Being a beautiful looking 9th grader, you would attract more attention compared to an hijabi. Plus it may be harder then as you will have more friends and peer pressure to blend in. It is a fard (obligatory) to do it once a person hits puberty. We should hurry to do good deeds, especially ones that are not optional, rather than delay them much further. I wanted you to know all this, although the final choice is still yours to make.
If you really want to wait till 10th grade then talk to your mom, sit down with her and have a mom-daughter talk. Tell her how you feel and your views on all this and hear her out as well, trying to see her view point also.
In case you haven’t had a chance to read up on hijab much, here is some information on it.

Conditions of Muslim woman’s hijab
http://islamqa.com/en/ref/214
The above links talk about the physical aspect of hijab. The outer hijab so to speak. There is inner hijab as well and together they make up the complete hijab. Complete hijab, besides the conditions of clothing, also includes the moral conduct, behavior, attitude, and intention of the individual. A person only fulfilling the criteria of hijab of the clothes is observing hijab in a limited sense. Hijab of the clothes should be accompanied by hijab of the eyes, the heart, the thought, and the intention. It also includes the way a person walks, talks, and behaves. Therefore, the hypocritical use of hijab is not a good example of Muslim conduct. -
Wa'alaikum as'salaam,
I have not heard of it but I did look it up. It is described as a self-help book based on a earlier movie of the same name. Seems more like a money making idea if it's based on a movie.
It is based on the law of attraction and claims that positive thinking can create life-changing results such as increased wealth, health, and happiness. The Secret describes the law of attraction as a natural law that determines the complete order of the universe and of our personal lives through the process of "like attracts like". The author claims that as we think and feel, a corresponding frequency is sent out into the universe that attracts back to us events and circumstances on that same frequency.
If you think and feel positively, you will attract back positive events and circumstances. Whereas if you think and feel negatively then you will attract back negative events and circumstances. The law claims that desirable outcomes such as health, wealth, and happiness can be attracted simply by changing one's thoughts and feelings.
So in other words, if you think positive then by law of attraction you will get everything you want in life and good things (events) will happen to you. But if you think bad thoughts then bad things will happen to you. This seems more like sci-fi stuff. Even the real self-help books out there don't claim this silly notion. If that were true then everyone would be rich and have everything they ever wanted.
Critics claim The Secret was conceived by the author and that the only people generating wealth and happiness from it are the author and the publishers. They further state the Secret offers false hope to those in true need of more conventional assistance in their lives.
In 2009, Ehrenreich published "Bright-Sided: How the Relentless Promotion of Positive Thinking Has Undermined America" as a response to "positive thinking" books, like The Secret, that teach "if I just change my thoughts, I could have it all". She worried this was delusional or even dangerous because it avoided dealing with the real sources behind problems. It encouraged "victim-blaming, political complacency, and a culture-wide "flight from realism" by suggesting failure is the result of not trying "hard enough" or believing "firmly enough in the inevitability of your success". Those who were "disappointed, resentful, or downcast" were 'victims' or 'losers'. Ehrenreich advocated "not negative thinking or despair" but "realism, checking out what’s really there and figuring out how to change it".
I believe with the critics. It's silly think that by merely thinking positive you can turn your life around and get rich, healthy and everything. This is not a self-help book, it is delusional and would harm a person more by sending them further into depression when their positive thinking doesn't get them anywhere. Self-help books make you admit you have a problem and then provide logical and sequential steps to solving the problem followed by advice on how to keep going forward. Self-help book are based on psychological science and deals with behavior changes and attaining small goals, leading up to major goals. They are not based on movies and offer you unrealistic ways of daydreaming your way out of life.
From an Islamic perspective, this book is trash. The book is based on a so called law of attraction and claims your positive thinking goes out into the universe and brings back positive events and circumstances on some frequency. A Muslim knows that nothing happens except by the will of Allah. You can think positive all you want, if you are not meant to have something than you never will. Some positive thinking and frequency does not determine your future. Rather all your rizk, health, wealth of this duniya is written down when you are on the womb. If we want to change something then first we make dua for Allah's help, then we do the work ourselves and then leave the rest to Allah.
Positive thinking is based on psychology and having a positive outlook does make one be more optimistic and therefore willing to go out and take chances, to forgive others, to work hard to achieve something. Negative thinking is the opposite, it darkens one's look on the world, the person is always looking to blame the world and others for his problems. Whether one goes one way or the other, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy that only confirms are beliefs. The idea behind it is social science based and worth looking into but this frequency wavelengths and promise of good or bad from the universe is just a money making gimmick. I wouldn't waste my time on that book. -
If we look at the Prophets and Messengers sent to mankind throughout history, one thing is evident from the message they brought. All of them came with the message of Monotheism. All of them addressed their people to worship only One God without any associations or partners. We see this pattern since the first man and first prophet, Adam (peace be upon him). And then we see this pattern is broken during Jesus (peace be upon him) time. And then it continues again with Muhammad, the final and seal of the prophets, (peace be upon him). This alone clearly shows that the whole trinity concept was introduced by man and thus the message of Jesus was corrupted. Today the Christians like to call themselves Monotheistic people when all they do is engage in polytheism.
I don't need to be a scholar to see the pattern being disrupted or that 1+1+1 does not equal 1. I just need common sense to know that and to know that you don't take a fellow human as your god. There is no blind faith in Islam, God tells us in the Quran over and over again to ponder, to reflect, to think. Where as if you ask the clergy some questions, they'll either just ask you to believe in blind faith or call it blasphemy if you don't persist. These are testimonies of the Christians who were searching for the truth but were shunned away.
Quran is the literal word of God, unchanged and uncorrupted. The original copies of the Quran exist even today, I think there are 3 in total, one being in a Museum in Turkey. In the Quran, Allah addresses the people of the book on how they went astray and should give up their ways. It is like the 3rd testament, bringing updated information and nullifying what was sent before it.
Bible became corrupted over time as did previous scriptures. Bible scholars themselves admit to this fact. You can read more on it in one of the previous answers here:

Wa'alaikum As'salaam,
It can be recited for one who is dying but not for one who is dead. Below is the evidence for it.
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said in al-Sharh al-Mumti’ fi Ahkaam al-Janaa’iz: “Soorat Yaa-Seen may be recited over him (i.e., the one who is dying) for the one who thinks that the hadeeth is correct.” He explained that this is because this soorah contains good news of Paradise, as in the aayah (interpretation of the meaning): “It was said: ‘Enter Paradise.’…” [Yaa-Seen 36:26], and because it makes the passage of the soul easier, and other reasons.
As regards reading Soorat Yaa-Seen for one who has died, there is no saheeh hadeeth to indicate that this should be done. A hadeeth was narrated by Abu Dawood and others which says “Read Yaa-Seen over your dead”, but this hadeeth is not saheeh because its isnaad contains contradictions and narrators who are unknown (majhool). This was stated by al-‘Allaamah al-Albaani in Irwaa’ al-Ghaleel, hadeeth no. 688. Reading Qur’aan over the dead is considered to be bid’ah (innovation), as he states at the end of his book Ahkaam al-Janaa’iz.

It is a test, not "fun and play".
Allah states in the Quran that He created man to be His Khalefah, His trustee on earth (Quran 2:30). Mankind’s basic trust, our responsibility, is to believe in and worship Allah:
And I did not create the Jinn and mankind except to worship Me… (Quran, 51:56-58)
Allah tells us that we will be tested. He also makes it clear to us what is expected from us when we undergo these trials and what our reward will be if we are successful.
He says:
“Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods, lives and the fruits (of your toil) but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere. Those who, when misfortune strikes them, say: ‘Indeed we belong to Allah and to Him is our return. Those are the ones upon whom are blessings and mercy from their Lord and it is those who are rightly guided.” [Sûrah al-Baqarah: 155]
The Prophet (peace be upon him)said:
"No fatigue, illness, anxiety, sorrow, harm or sadness afflicts any Muslim, even to the extent of a thorn pricking him, without Allah wiping out his sins by it." [Sahîh al-Bukhârî and Sahîh Muslim]
In another narration, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“No Muslim is afflicted by harm, whether it is but the prick of a thorn or something worse, without Allah expiating his evil deeds on account of it and his sins falling away from him like leaves off a tree.'" [Sahîh al-Bukhârî]
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
"When Allah desires good for someone, He tries him with hardships." [Sahîh al-Bukhârî]
The Muslim may be tested by all sorts of difficulties like sickness, lack of income, and disobedience from his children. In fact, the many afflictions that may beset a person are incalculable. This is the point that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was stressing when he mentioned: “fatigue, illness, anxiety, sorrow, harm or sadness …even to the extent of a thorn pricking him”.
All of these afflictions, if endured patiently by the believer, are a means of attaining Allah’s forgiveness as well as His reward.
Every one of us is being tested by Allah. He tests us all in different ways. We should not assume that the difficulties that we face in life are punishments or are signs that Allah is displeased with us. Likewise, we should never construe the success and pleasures that others enjoy as signs that Allah is pleased with them or that they are privileged. Sometimes, quite the opposite is true.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“If Allah wants good for his servant, He hurries on His punishment in this world, and if He wills ill for a servant, he holds back punishing him for his sin so He can give it to him in full on the Day of Resurrection.”
Allah says:
“Every soul shall taste of death. And We will test you with evil and with good by way of trial. And to Us is your return.” [Sûrah al-Anbiyâ’: 35].
Allah says:
“Know that your wealth and your children are but a trial and that Allah has with Him a mighty reward.” [Sûrah al-Anfâl: 28]
Many people do not realize that they are tried just as severely with the good that they are given as they are by the misfortunes that befall them. Allah says:
“And as for man, whenever his Lord tries him by honoring him and makes him lead an easy life, he says: ‘My Lord honors me’. But when He tries him by straitening his means of subsistence, he says: ‘My Lord has disgraced me’.” [Sûrah al-Fajr: 15-16]
Some people are blessed to be born and raised in good Muslim families then turn their backs on Islam, while others are born and raised in non-Muslim countries to unbelieving parents and grow up to be among the best of Muslims.
We are tried with wealth as well as poverty. If we are wealthy, will we hoard our wealth or spend in charity? Will we use it for lawful purposes or squander it in vice? Will we trust in Allah in our investments, or will our avarice and fear of losing our wealth make us take recourse to unlawful means to preserve it and increase it?
If we are poor, will we be content and patient and seek lawful means to attain our sustenance or will we resort to unlawful means to meet our needs? Will we accept the fact that Allah gives more to some people than he does to others, or will we grow hateful and vindictive?
We are tested with health as well as sickness. A man with good eyesight is tested with regards to his use of it. Will he use the blessing of his sight to good purpose or to gaze at unlawful things? His good eyesight may be what takes him to Hell. A blind man is tested whether he will bear patiently with his disability. His patience in affliction may be what earns him his place in Paradise. Our goal is the Hereafter and we are all being tested.
Allah says:
“It is He who created death and life that He may try you as to which of you is best in deeds.” [Sûrah al-Mulk: 2]
We may also be tested through others. We know from experience that even a small child can experience suffering as well as a person who is mentally handicapped to such a degree that he cannot understand the concepts of Islam and is not legally accountable. Though it may not be that such a person is not undergoing tests of his own; however his plight may very well be a test for those his life affects. How will they treat him? Will they care for him, respect him, and give him his rights?
We may not be able to fathom the wisdom behind why Allah decrees what He does for us or for others of His creatures. However, we must know that Allah does everything in accordance with His wisdom and bear our trials patiently.
Ultimately, we must remember the words of Allah in the Qur’ân:
“He cannot be questioned for what He does but they will be questioned.” [Sûrah al-Anbiyâ’: 23]

The website you have given states this:
[An ancient Arabian legend says that God made humans from mud and clay, angels from light, and djinn from smokeless fire. In the western world, many people readily accept the idea of angels and demons, but most have no knowledge of the djinn, called “God’s other people.”
According to legend, the djinn were the first inhabitants of this world, where they lived for thousands of years before humanity arrived. In order to make room for humans, angels took the djinn out of this world and placed them in a dimension that parallels our own. There they stay hidden from our view. They have the ability to see and interact with us, but we have difficulty seeing them. They are cloaked in mystery, and it suits their covert purpose.
The goal of most djinn is to retake this world, which they feel rightfully belongs to them. In order to succeed, they must make humanity give up stewardship of this reality. They are accomplishing this by stealth and disguise. They have great powers and plenty of time, for they live for centuries.
Shape-shifting djinn may be responsible for many forms of paranormal phenomena and experience, such as UFOs, shadow people, ghosts, poltergeists, and demonic possession. In such ways, they gain access to us that enables them to steal our life force and information about us, and to manipulate and use us without revealing their true form and purpose. These negative experiences are on the rise.
Rosemary, one of the leading experts on the paranormal, along with her co-author, present the findings of her in-depth investigations of the djinn: who they are, what they are doing, and how they can be countered.]
And the book title is "Vengeful djinn" written by two non-Muslims.
First of all, it is JINN and d-jinn or genie.
Secondly, it is not an "ancient arabian legend" as the book/site asserts. It is part of the Quran and Islamic belief.
The Noble Qur'an - Ar-Rahmaan 55:15, 15
"He created man (Adam) from sounding clay like the clay of pottery.
And the jinns did He create from a smokeless flame of fire. "
Thirdly, they are not "vengeful" creatures. Like us, they have good and bad among them.
“‘There are among us some that are righteous, and some the contrary; we are groups having different ways (religious sects).’” [al-Jinn 72:11]
Lastly, it is clear that the authors have heavily borrowed form Islamic teachings about Jinns and also have added their own opinions and made up facts about the Jinns. Non-Muslims don't even know what a Jinn is and now they are writing books on them as "experts"?
There is no reference given anywhere that transforming into human is like being skinned or they can't do it for long periods of time because it takes too much "energy" or other mumbo jumbo this site and authors are trying to sell. I"m sure the western world will find it as an interesting fictional reading, as it is nothing more than that.
We only know what has been revealed to us, and anything more is concealed from us. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And of knowledge, you (mankind) have been given only a little” [al-Isra’ 17:85]
If you want to know who they are then I would suggest more authentic resources like the ones below.

I don't know where you heard about Jinn rarely taking human form because it feels like being skinned. I've never heard of it nor read it anywhere nor is it mentioned in any of the links i provided for further reading.
Jinns take human forms or whatever forms they want as often as they wish. Different cultures hold different beliefs about demons and ghosts and so the Jinns take on those forums to scare the humans or fool them. They turn into oni and other demons prevalent in Japan, turn into weird looking humans with feet turned back way in India, turn into ghosts of dead people in the west and so forth.
Jinns live in communities like all creatures. They have families and have different cultures and religions like us. They are spirit beings and have their own world to live in. They live among us but invisible to us, in a parallel fashion. Which is why we are to call out to them to warn them before doing something like throwing boiling water outside or killing a snake in the house. They can fly up into space and places we can only imagine. And they have existed long before man was created. So they could rule over us but they have no such interests or desires. They live their lives as we live our lives. Besides, Allah has given us supplications to recite so that we can protect ourselves from the evil ones amongst them. -
The short answer is that the Shia betrayed and lead to the death of Ali (r.a.), the 4th caliph, the cousin and son in law of Prophet Muhammad, Hasan (r.a.), son of Ali, Hussain (r.a.), son of Ali, and Zayd ibn Ali ibn Hussain (r.a.), grandson of Hussain. After the massacre at Karbala, the shia tried to make “amends” for their betrayal and went out to the massacre area and started lamenting, mourning out loud and beating themselves. So they hit themselves to punish themselves for the cowardice that they had shown that led to their Imam’s death.
The long answer is the history behind it:
During his Caliphate, Ali (r.a) shifted the Caliphate from Medinah to Kufa in Iraq. The Kuffans were staunch Partisans of Ali (Shia’t Ali). The Jew Abdullah Ibn Saba found the Kuffans to be very receptive to his claims that Ali was divinely appointed by Allah, and his followers became the Saba’ites. When the Shia’t Ali met the Shia’t Muawiyyah on the battlefield, Muawiyyah (r.a) convinced Ali (r.a) to hold a cease-fire and to use arbitration to decide who will be the Caliph. Ali (r.a) agreed to arbitration. This angered the Kuffan Saba’ites because they held the erroneous belief that Ali had been divinely appointed by Allah, so they believed that Ali (r.a) was going against the will of Allah by agreeing to arbitration. In their minds, there could be no negotiation on a matter that was decreed by Allah. Some of these Kuffan Saba’ites rebelled against Ali (r.a), turning on him and calling him an apostate. These people would be known as Kharajites (those who went out), and they would eventually assassinate their leader Ali (r.a), the same leader they had once claimed so much love for.
As for the remaining Kuffan Shias who did not become Kharajites, they would later join the forces of Hasan (r.a). However, Hasan (r.a) did not trust these Shia as they were very disloyal. Distrusting his Shia, Hasan (r.a) made peace with Muawiyyah (r.a) and gave him the Caliphate, so long as Muawiyyah (r.a) promised that Hussain (r.a) would be made Caliph after Muawiyyah’s death (r.a). After this reconciliation took place between Hasan (r.a and Muawiyyah (r.a), the Shia’t Ali remained in Kufa. After the death of Ali (r.a), the ranks of the Saba’ites and their sympathizers amongst the Shia’t Ali increased. When Muawiyyah (r.a) died, however, his son Yezid declared himself the new Caliph, in violation of the agreement settled with Hasan (r.a) which stated that Hussain (r.a) would be Caliph. This angered the Shias of Kufa. So it was that in Ramadan 60 A.H. that the Kuffans sent letter after letter from Kufa to Mecca where Hussain (r.a) was staying after his flight from Medinah. The Kuffans assured Hussain (r.a) of their loyalty and allegiance to him; they had not accepted Yezid as leader whom they resented. On certain days, there would be as many as 600 letters accompanied by messengers describing the overwhelming support of Hussain (r.a) in Kufa.
This began the karbala incident in which the Shia’s betrayed Hussain (r.a.) which led to his, his family and his companions martyrdom. You can read about the Karbala incident here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dawaah/message/2675
Four years after the massacre of Karbala, the Shia of Kufa attempted to make amends for their desertion of Hussain (r.a.). They called themselves the Al-Tawwabun, which translates to “the Penitents.” This group went to Karbala to commemorate Hussain (r.a.), and here it was that they began Matam, with loud mourning, lamenting, and self-flagellation. These Tawwabun hit themselves to punish themselves for the cowardice that they had shown that led to their Imam’s death just four years earlier. This is the origin of the Shia ritual of Matam (mourning the dead). It is a testament to this day of how they killed their own Imam, and how their whole religion is centered around a false commitment to the Ahlel Bayt (household of the Prophet Muhammad).
Karbala was not to be the last act of treason by the Shia against the Ahlel Bayt. Sixty year later, the grandson of Hussain (r.a.), namely Zayd ibn Ali ibn Hussain (r.a.), led an uprising against the Umayyad ruler Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik. Zayd (r.a.) recieved the Bayat (oath of allegiance) of over 40,000 men, of which 15,000 were from the same Kufa that deserted his grandfather. Just before the battle started, all but a few hundred men deserted Zayd (r.a.) en masse. On the departure of the defectors, Zayd (r.a.) remarked: “I am afraid they have done unto me as they did to Hussain (r.a.).”
Zayd (r.a.) and his little army fought bravely and attained martyrdom. Thus, on Wednesday the 1st of Safar 122 AH, another member of the Ahlel Bayt fell victim to the treachery of the Shia of Kufa. -
Abrahamic religions are the monotheistic faiths emphasizing and tracing their common origin to Abraham or recognizing a spiritual tradition identified with him. These religion include Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Each one recognizing the previous religion and prophets sent to it and worshiping the same God.
The Qur'an states that each people has received revelation from Allah in its own tongue so that all individuals know what is required of them. The Qur'an mentions twenty-five of them by name, among them Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Issac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Solomon, John, Jesus, and Muhammad. There are, however, many others who are not named. Muhammad, the last prophet, was sent with a universal message meant for all of humanity The message revealed through him is the Qur'an, which is Allah's final presentation of the original revelation received by mankind in its purest form. A Muslim must accept all of Allah's prophets and messengers as legitimate, for denial of one means denial of all. For western readers who are not convinced that Muhammad is a prophet of Allah, proof of this claim can be found in the Bible (Deut. 18:15-18, 33:2-3; Isaiah 29:12; Songs of Solomon 5:16;John 14:1516, 16:12-14) as well as in the biographical accounts of Muhammad's life, which was lived in full view of his contemporaries.
In the Quran, Allah talks about the Jews and Christians.
"Abraham was not a Jew nor Christian; but an upright Muslim." (Soorah Aal'imraan 3:67)
"Verily those who believe, those who follow the Jewish (Scriptures), the Christians and the Sabians any who believe In Allah and the last day, and work righteousness *hall have their reward with their Lord; They will not be overcome by fear nor grief (Soorah Al-Baqarah 2:62).
If only they had stood by the law, the Gospel, and all the revelation that was sent to them from their Lord, they would have enjoyed happiness from every side. There Is from among them a party on the right course; but many of them follow a course that Is evil.". (Soorah Al-.Maa'idah 5:66)

A lot happens. It’ll start with the blowing of the trumpet. Here are excerpts from various questions on islamqa.com
In the hadeeth narrated by Muslim (2940) from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Amr (may Allaah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The Dajjaal will appear among my ummah and he will stay for forty. Then Allaah will send ‘Eesa ibn Maryam, who looks like ‘Urwah ibn Mas’ood, and he will pursue him and kill him. Then the people will remain for seven years with no enmity between any two people. Then Allaah will send a cool wind from the direction of Syria and there will be no one left on the face of the earth in whose heart there is an atom’s weight of goodness or faith but it will cause him to die. Even if one of you were to enter the heart of a mountain, it would enter upon him and cause him to die.” He said: I heard it from the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), who said: “There will be left the most evil of people who will be as careless as birds and be as cruel as wild animals. They will not acknowledge any good or denounce any evil. Then the Shaytaan will appear to them and will say: Will you not listen to me? They will say: What do you command us to do? He will command them to worship idols, but despite that they will have ample provision and a good life. Then the Trumpet will be blown.”
The majority of scholars are of the view that the Trumpet will be blown twice: the first time all creatures will swoon and the second time the resurrection will come to pass. This is based on the verse in which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And the Trumpet will be blown, and all who are in the heavens and all who are on the earth will swoon away, except him whom Allaah wills. Then it will be blown a second time, and behold they will be standing, looking on (waiting)” [al-Zumar 39:68]
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Between the two blowings of the Trumpet there will be forty.” The people said, “O Abu Hurayrah! Forty days?” I said: “I am not sure.” They said, “Forty years?” I said: “I am not sure.” They said, “Forty months?” I said: “I am not sure. Then Allaah will send rain down from the sky and they will grow as herbs grow. There is no part of a man which will not decay except a single bone at the base of the coccyx, from which he will be re-created on the Day of Resurrection.”
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “… then the Trumpet will be blown and no one will hear it but he will bend his neck to one side and raise it from the other side. The first one who will hear it will be a man who is busy in setting right the cistern meant for supplying water to the camels. He will swoon and the other people will also swoon. Then Allah will send or He will send down rain which will be like dew and there will grow out of it the bodies of people. Then the trumpet will be blown again, and they will stand up and begin to look around.”
From the above it may be understood that when Allaah decrees that all living beings should die, He will command the angel to blow the Trumpet, so he will give a mighty blast which will terrify all creatures, as a result of which they will swoon and die. Then they will stay like that for as long as Allaah decrees, which is described as forty without specifying whether that is years, months or days – Allaah knows best how long it is. Their bodies will decay within this period until there is nothing left but the bone from the base of the coccyx, which is a round bone at the base of the spine. Then Allaah will send a cloud that will release rain, and when the water reaches this bone, the body will grow from it like a plant grows and they will be recreated from this bone, just as Allaah created them the first time, for He is able to do all things. Then he will blow the Trumpet to signal the Resurrection, and the souls will return to their bodies and will come forth from their graves and hasten to the place of gathering. We ask Allaah for His mercy and kindness.
And then Day of Resurrection begins. Allaah calls the Day of Resurrection the Day of Gathering because Allaah will gather His slaves, mankind and the jinn. Allaah says:
“Indeed in that (there) is a sure lesson for those who fear the torment of the Hereafter. That is a Day whereon mankind will be gathered together, and that is a Day when all (the dwellers of the heavens and the earth) will be present” [Hood 11:103]
“And (remember) the Day We shall cause the mountains to pass away (like clouds of dust), and you will see the earth as a leveled plain, and we shall gather them all together so as to leave not one of them behind” [al-Kahf 18:47]
Also included in this gathering are the animals. Shaykh al-Islam (Ibn Taymiyah) said:
“As for the animals, they will all be gathered by Allaah, as is indicated by the Qur’aan and Sunnah. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
‘There is not a moving (living) creature on earth, nor a bird that flies with its two wings, but are communities like you. We have neglected nothing in the Book, then unto their Lord they (all) shall be gathered’ [al-An’aam 6:38]
‘And when the wild beasts are gathered together’ [al-Takweer 81:5]
People will be gathered on the Day of Resurrection barefoot, naked and uncircumcised. It was narrated that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘You will be gathered barefoot, naked and uncircumcised.’ I said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, men and women will be looking at one another?!’ He said, ‘The situation will be so terrible that that will not concern them.’” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 6527)
When a person dies, he will be called to account for every major and minor action he did in this world, whether it was good or bad. He will be rewarded for his good deeds and punished for his bad deeds. The first stage of that reckoning is in the grave. In the grave the first thing a person will be asked will be: Who was your Lord? What is your religion? Who is this man who was sent amongst you? – as was narrated in the hadeeth of al-Baraa’ ibn ‘Aazib (may Allaah be pleased with him), which was narrated by Abu Dawood in his Sunan (4753) and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 2979.
Then on the Day of Resurrection he will be brought to account for every major and minor action, even though he has already been brought to account for that in the grave. The first thing for which he will be brought to account for then will be his prayer.
It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The first thing among their deeds for which the people will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be prayer. Our Lord will say to His angels, although He knows best, ‘Look at My slave’s prayer, is it complete or lacking?’ If it is complete, it will be recorded as complete, but if it is lacking, He will say, ‘Look and see whether my slave did any voluntary (naafil) prayers.’ If he had done voluntary prayers, He will say, ‘Complete the obligatory prayers of My slave from his voluntary prayers.’ Then the rest of his deeds will be examined in a similar manner.”
(Narrated by Abu Dawood, 864; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 770).
On the Day of Resurrection, people will be asked about other matters, including the following:
It was narrated from Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The son of Adam will not be dismissed from before his Lord on the Day of Resurrection until he has been questioned about five things: his life and how he spent it, his youth and how he used it, his wealth and how he earned it and how he disposed of it, and how he acted upon what he acquired of knowledge.”
(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2422; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 1969)
Some of it is summed up in the Quran. Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 69 Surah Al Haaqqah verses 13-37:Then, when the Trumpet is blown once (signaling the start of the Day of Judgement), and the earth and the mountains are lifted up and crushed into pieces with a single stroke, on that Day shall the Inevitable(Day of Judgement) happen. On that Day the heavens shall split asunder, and its system shall loosen! The angels shall be on its sides and eight angels on that Day, shall be upholding the Throne of your Lord, above them. That will be the Day when you shall be brought forth (for accounting) and no secret of yours shall remain hidden (from Allah).
Then whoever is given his Book of Conduct in his right hand, shall say (to all around him), “Read my Book of Conduct! I knew that I would certainly be getting my account.” So he shall be in a state of bliss, in a High Garden, whose clusters of fruit shall be hanging within his easy reach. To such people it will be said: “Eat and drink with relish as a reward for the works you did in the days gone by!.”
As for him whose Book of Conduct is given in his left hand, he will say, “Alas! Would that I had not been given my Book of Conduct, nor known what my account was! Would that the death (that I suffered in the world) were the final death! Today my wealth has availed me nothing, and my power has perished from me! (It will be ordered:) “Seize him in a chain, seventy cubits (appx 105 ft.) long. For he did not believe in Allah, the Most High, nor urged the feeding of the poor. So he has neither any true friend here today, nor any food, except the corruption from the washing of wounds, which none but the sinners shall eat!”

If you want a short answer, just skip to the end and see last few paragraphs. Otherwise...
Let’s start from the top. We know Allah sent the Quran and since this is the last message and guidance to mankind, He also promised to protect. We can see this in the following verse.
We have, Without doubt, sent down the message: and we will assuredly guard it (from corruption) (Qur'an 15:9)
But then how do we implement the Quran in our lives? That is where Sunnah [examples and sayings (hadith) ] of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) come in. The sunnah is the practical example of the Quran as Aisha r.a. said in one hadith that the Messenger is a walking Quran. Which why we see Allah says this in the Quran:
What the Messenger teaches you, take it, and what he forbids you, avoid doing it (59:7).
Many think that Quran is the only revelation from Allah but there was also another; the Sunnah is a revelation from Allah to His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). We can see that in this verse:
" He does not speak out of his own fancy. This is nothing but an inspired revelation. He is taught by One who is Mighty in Power and Vigorous." (53:3-6).
And also more proof in this one:
{… and Allah has sent down to you the Book and the wisdom…} (An-Nisa’ 4: 113)
The Wisdom refers to the Sunnah. The great jurist ash-Shafi`i said: “God mentions the Book, which is the Qur’an. I have heard from people whom I consider authorities on the Qur’an that the wisdom is the Sunnah of God’s Messenger.”
It is related from Mak-hul that God’s Messenger said: “God gave me the Qur’an and what is like it from the Wisdom.”
Al-Miqdam ibn Ma`d Yakarab relates that God’s Messenger said: “I have been given the Book and with it something like it.”
An opinion from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was not merely his own thoughts or deliberations on a matter; it was what God revealed to him. In this way, the Prophet was different from other people because he was supported by the revelation. When he exercised his own reasoning and was correct, God would confirm it, and if he ever made a mistake in his thinking, God would correct it and guide him to the accurate judgment.
So now that we know that Sunnah is also part of the revelation and part of the Message sent to us. The verse I shared earlier applies to both Quran and sunnah as it is talking about the whole message and not just the guidance (Quran).
We have, Without doubt, sent down the message: and we will assuredly guard it (from corruption) (Qur'an 15:9)
Which now brings us to your question of why how hadeeth are classified.
Allah preserved the Sunnah by enabling the Companions and those after them to memorize, write down and pass on the statements of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and the descriptions of his way, as well as to continue the blessings of practicing the Sunnah.
Later, as the purity of the knowledge of the Sunnah became threatened, Allah caused the Muslim Ummah to produce individuals with exceptional memory skills and analytical expertise, who travelled tirelessly to collect thousands of narrations and distinguish the true words of prophetic wisdom from those corrupted by weak memories, from forgeries by unscrupulous liars, and from the statements of the large number of Ulama (scholars), the Companions and those who followed their way. All of this was achieved through precise attention to the words narrated, and detailed familiarity with the biographies of the thousands of reporters of hadith.
This way a complete science of hadith was developed to record, analyze and classify each hadith on its authenticity. This preserved the sunnah and the hadith. Today we have volumes and volumes of hadeeth categorized by authenticity, authors, chain of narrations and everything else related to it. We don’t need to determine whether a hadith is sahih or daif because just about any ahadith you come across will have already been recorded and classified. We just ask the scholars or grab the book and look up the hadith and it will tell us how sahih it is and why.
With that said, visit the link below to see the science of the hadith in an easy format and charts. It’ll make everything clear inshallah.
