I use squarespace and love it! It has a monthly few but it's super easy to use and customize, so I am able to do design the layout myself.

my mom was always really into sewing so i honestly remember working on barbie clothes when i was very young. it wasn't until i was in high school that i picked it back up again and then in the last 3 years i decided to really commit to taking my skills to the next level...it takes so much patience and attention, but i recommend taking a class for anyone interested in learning -- and just practice, practice, practice.

thanks! i try to keep it simple. right now i'm using squarespace and love it. hope this helps!

I generally shoot in a warmer temp setting on my camera (Kelvin) which is reminiscent of a vintage feel..also a more shallow depth of field can help. Lastly, I have a recipe of Photoshop actions I use to take it just a little further.

This is a tough question because I'm the worst at blog promotion! I personally enjoy keeping my blog as a hobby and an online inspiration journal...that other people just happen to see. So I'm not actively trying to get to promote DD. But I honestly feel that the most important thing a blogger can do is to post genuine content..blog what you love and care about. And after time you form a loyal audience no matter how big or small.

I went to NC State University in Raleigh, NC. Got my bachelors of graphic design.

I use a Singer serger and it's OK. It's definitely an economy version and I wouldn't really recommend it but it gets the job done. My dress form doesn't have a brand on it! I bought it in the garment district in new York from a small sewing shop. Love it though :)

Being able to shoot in manual mode. Understanding the capabilities of your camera and using it to record what you see....instead of it deciding for you. I can't recommend enoughh the importance of learning to shoot film.

Immediately after any shoot we load everything into the computer or take the film to be processed -- I always have this fear that something will get lost or wiped clean, which would be terrible!
Then the editing process begins...the hub and I both have a hand in editing, since we're a team, it helps to have a second set of eyes to make sure all of the right photos are chosen and edited correctly. While shooting, we try our best to nail down exposure and the mood we're trying to capture to cut down on the post-processing. But any photos we're not satisfied with, we bring into camera raw/photoshop and adjust accordingly. After we've finished the editing process, we take a final look over all of the images...give the okay...and on to the client, which is the best part. -
It’s definitely the same old life … just a new location :) Seriously though, it’s been a wonderful change of pace. I’ve had the opportunity to meet people I knew virtually, actually in person! Crazy, right? And now that it’s getting warmer outside, I can’t wait to take slow walks around the hood and explore the city (I’ve been bundled up and walking briskly for the past couple of months).
But it’s not all peachy keen … I miss many things … our 3 bedroom house, a washer/dryer, quietness, and not walking up multiple flights of stairs a day. We’re taking a trip to visit my brother and his wife in Rhode Island this weekend and I can’t wait to be in a car alone with the hub.
School has kept me busy since I moved here – so I’m excited for the semester to end so I can have more free time :) -
Oh I know, I have one too many things floating around in my head. The problem is, when I see something I like, I think to myself “I could do that” and ta-da…I’m on a quest to figure it out.
I generally don’t have the time to do everything I’d like and definitely get lazy at times … but when I have strong desire to do something (like learn to sew better) … I get in the zone and don’t feel satisfied until I get to a certain point with the task. A pet peeve of mine is when someone talks about doing something and then it never happens, so I guess my drive comes from that....life’s too short ya know, if you want to learn to figure skate, there’s nothing left to do but get on the ice.
Wow, that was a terrible analogy. -
GGood question! There are so many :) The great thing about the online community is that you have ... at your finger tips ... the opportunity to explore and learn from so many people. I sometimes feel like I can't keep up but there are a few I look up to that inspire me....
hmmm...let's see.... Well of course the Design Sponge crew is pretty amazing and have helped put blogs on the map, Chelsea (from Frolic) and Ellie (from Mint) are both doing unique things with their blogs, I also love Roberta (from Camp Comfort) and Jane (from I'll Seen, I'll Said) for their fashion sense....and the cool things Kate (from For Me, For You) and Jenny (from Wiksten) are doing with their talented collections.
I have an evolving "links" section on my blog that I try to remember to add to when I stumble across someone who is doing awesome things...so you can see more of my favorites there….but honestly, people who are putting out work or posts that are genuine and unique really inspire the most. -
Sure! I'll try to whip up a tutorial in the next couple of week.

I honestly have not noticed that much a difference and believe that's because I draw a lot of inspiration from the internet. But I will say, I'm surrounded with more creativity which keeps my mind constantly buzzing -- from the way people are dressed on the streets, to store fronts...So in a way, I would say it's constantly on my mind.

Aqua blue. I haven't been able to drop that color from my mental palette :)

Wedding photography is its own unique world -- I would recommend second shooting a wedding or assisting just to get your feet wet...and see if it's something you'd like to pursue. I also think it's a good idea to offer to shoot a family/friends wedding ... it really helps when developing your shooting style and decide what type of wedding photographer you'd like to be.
All in all, wedding photographer takes time, but is definitely one of the most rewarding experiences -- to be able to capture moments on such an important day, is really an amazing experience. -
I prefer to shoot in natural light -- but I don't necessarily mean the harsh bright sun. You want the light to be soft and even, sometimes you can manipulate it (by using a curtain) other times you just have to wait for it :)
Does that make sense? Early morning or late afternoon are great times to photograph because you don't have intense shadows. But again, filtering the light, like through a curtain, is a great way to soften up the light. -
So here it goes..that cat's out of the bag. I'm actually a super picky eater -- I sometimes think my test buds never matured or something?! It can be terribly frustrating but I work around it.
But what are my favorite things to eat? Anything with cheese, I'm a cheese-a-holic :) I love asparagus & mushrooms, pork-chops, blueberries, and buttercream icing. That was a random mash-up wasn't it? Not all together, obviously. -
I actually contemplated staying at SCAD -- worked on the transfer papers and all. But after taking a sewing class there and figuring out how long it would take me to complete the program (it's a 4 year undergrad program) .. it just didn't really seem to fit.
Parsons was so appealing because it's designed for people who already have degrees and are looking to shifts careers. It's accelerated and I only have to take fashion classes, oh and not to mention, the average age is 26 as opposed to freshly graduated high school seniors.
So all and all, the AAS Program at Parsons seemed to fit better with what I was looking for. Since I'm paying for it myself -- I really had to figure out what was best for me. Oh, and we were looking for an excuse to move back to NYC. -
The hub and I started out in middle school! We had the same 6th grade homeroom teacher and started going steady. Don't get excited, we broke it off nearly two weeks later :) It wasn't until high school that things rekindled... and now we've been together over 8 years -- 1 .5 married years :) Crazy, right?
