Having your heart broken is a part of life and I've had my fair share. One heartbreak incident in particular helped me write what I call my "Broken Hearts" trilogy. I wrote three very heart-felt songs that I feel are among my finest compositions. Though it was a hard thing to live through, I feel it was all for the best. I've discovered through these past few years that these songs have touch the lives of many different people in their own vulnerable state. Hearing stories of about how these songs have help someone through a break up or how the songs reunited relationships is possibly the greatest reward in my line of work. I've also found that my happy songs are a little more genuine. Like my buddy Miles says, "You don't know black, if you don't know white". You won't know the good times, if you don't know the bad. It all evens out as it should.

I consider myself a marathon musician. For some reason I've always been able to sing for long lengths of time without losing my voice or getting tired. I assume it's a combination of conditioning, technique, and natural ability. Thanks mom and dad. =)

The plan is to come out with a ukulele cover album first. I'm currently working on that right now and should be done, hopefully very soon. Then I'm going to record a live cover album featuring more guitar and vocals. Both albums, will feature some of my favorite songs as well as some new original tunes. Stay tuned! =)

The words and melody often come together at the same time. From there, I usually have to alter either the words or melody to create an interesting flow. For me, every song has a unique writing process.

Gondolier was my first job title. I rowed and drove gondolas for about 11 years before becoming a full time musician. Anything from birthdays, proposals, anniversaries, to just because. And yes, I was singing gondolier. As a matter of fact, I credit all those years singing on gondolas for helping me hone my vocal control. I still go back from time to time to do a cruise just because I really enjoy being out on the water. Go to www.gondola.com and you can see the gondolas I use to pilot.

This is a good opportunity to remind me of those songs of which you speak. So many times people ask me to cover their favorite tunes and I am totally happy to oblige. However, by the time I finish the show, pack up, drive home and pass out, any promises like that have been lost to oblivion. What were those songs again? =)

Maika. =) My real last name is Hamamoto, but I decided to go with Danny Maika because I thought it might be easier for drunk people to pronounce and remember.
