you could try liquid eyeliner ? it's should be non smudgy and affordable ! i'm sure you could find at woolies :D

cause i originally used pencil , but i used bobby gel liner , but it's expensive and the brush is expensive too , then i used a liquid liner for a short while ... forgot what that was called and now i'm using a gel liner from morning glory x) i think ... and it's worked out pretty well :D

since i'm not inspirational i think you should use both christine and judy's suggestions as characters in the same story :D or use your darker side and write with that x) i would be interested to see what that part of you writes (:
