I strongly believe creativity, discipline and determination are three defining qualities in a successful business. It's so easy to get discouraged when starting out, but if you can persevere, the rewards are so fulfilling!
When I look back at some of the rookie mistakes I made when I launched my biz I cringe BUT, then I think about how important it is in the process. Missteps often have, and continue to, lead me to other great opportunities. I guess what I'm trying to say, is that the process isn't always as linear as we may wish it to be, but there's something to be said for that...
I'd also stress the importance of being able and willing to make changes. If you've given an aspect of your business "the old college try" and it's just not yielding results, it's probably time to regroup a bit. Try to stay open minded and flexible. -
Wow, there are so many possibilities... I've always envied great illustrators, so that would be pretty cool. I've also eternally wished that I wasn't such a mediocre seamstress - I love the idea of being able to whip up an amazing outfit at a moment's notice!

Not shameless at all! I receive quite a few inquiries about representation. I do my best to respond to them all. I work with over 25 amazing designers, so for the most part I'm not looking to add any new lines. That being said, if something really strikes me as unique and marketable, exceptions can be made. I have approached stationers in the past and certainly have my eye on a few emerging lines. Overall, I think it's best to have established yourself in the market before seeking out a rep.

Making sure that your designs resonate with your target audience is key! I think networking is an excellent and inexpensive way to begin. You'll likely find you'll make directional changes just from the input of others in the industry. Exhibiting at wholesale shows can be wonderful, but I would suggest that you have a strong core collection before investing in a trade show booth.

I love horror films! I pretty much watch them all from big-budget releases to obscure foreign slasher films. It's rare for me to meet someone (particularly female) that shares in this delight. :)

If you were to ask my husband he would most certainly say twitter. I'm admittedly a bit of an addict. I love tweeting about my travels and catching up on others tweets. I also adore perusing other paper lover's sites and blogs. Still discovering new ones daily!
