I can count the number of bars I've gone to solo on one hand. I like cafes though (and bookstore cafes even better). My current favorite hangout is Diesel, which I would characterize as butch/boi/alternative. It's artsy with a garage theme, a popular hangout for solo computer consultants and college kids, and a great place to people watch, although I wish the couches were more comfortable. They make a good pot of Earl Grey.
