care to share a childhood memory?

back when we were living in surabaya, my mom always loved to dress my sister and i in ridiculous getups and take pictures of us running around at home. princess outfits, gowns, kimonos, sailor outfits, weird scarves and jewellery... you name it. most of our childhood pictures are of us dressed rather peculiarly, actually.

but come to think of it i think we were pretty fashion forward tots in general haha. i had a happy childhood :)

Hi mag! Just a comment, i find that the mailer tt hvv sends out very convoluted and unnecessary. some of the words are deliberately strung together to create alliteration and it gets quite difficult and distracting actually. straight fwd, concise and

      okay.

i'll just start by saying that a lot of effort is put into those mailers. the purpose of sending those emails is to inform our customers of what's to come in our next collection - a small introduction, the time and date of the launch, updates about upcoming promotions and/or events, and product descriptions.

we spruce the mailers up because while the aim is to be as informative and succinct as possible, we also want to be interesting and personable, as much as we can. and so far it's worked! feedback on the mailers has been great. so we're not looking to change the format or the content of what we include in those emails any time soon.

anyway over the top is fine. in fact we think it's great! let us indulge in our flowery language and superfluous alliteration. that's the point of it anyway. to be catchy, amusing and attention-grabbing. maybe even silly. but we're just having fun, so go with it why don't you??

if you're still insistent on being a party pooper though, there's a reason why we send out an email blast, as well as a full preview on facebook. you might find the latter more comprehensible.

Hi, very interested to know how or why the IRIS brand was conceived? Was there any consideration of brand dilution especially since the original HVV brand is targetting the self-empowered, individualistic woman, a contrast from the IRIS target group?

i don't mean to be rude, but your point here is.. kind of irrelevant. do you even know what you're talking about?

brand dilution becomes a risk when a brand name or image is overused due to a company's rapid and oft poorly-planned expansion, and the focus of the brand becomes blurred. i mentioned in my previous answer that the introduction of IRIS, we were indeed hoping to increase our potential reach, but our target market is nothing radically different as you try to suggest.

clare and i started HVV when we were 14, 18 and that showed in the designs that we brought in. in the 4, rising 5 years that HVV has existed, both of us have grown with the brand and so have our tastes.

what we're doing with IRIS is not cheapening our brand, but taking a step back and bringing back what we initially started with - in addition to what we're already offering. we're not losing our focus. IRIS essentially still caters to the same ideal personality that our main label does, just younger. that was clearly stated in my last response regarding IRIS. the rest of our brand still remains consistent.

so while i fully appreciate your concern - which you were extremely quick to raise - i find your argument rather misinformed.

      cheers

Hi mag, why the brand, IRIS? (:

hullo! well.. why not? :) we thought it'd be a good time to expand, and IRIS just seemed like a great idea to venture into. the new label was created as a complement to our main line.

picture this - her velvet vase's main label is a self-empowered lady in her prime. she's beautiful, enterprising, and strongly individualistic. that's the kind of personality we aspire to reflect in our main label. hence it's a fashion forward line that will incorporate high street styles and light corporate wear.

on the other hand, IRIS is what we'd imagine her velvet vase to be as a teenage girl; she's younger, but still strong, open-minded, and possesses a multi-faceted personality. more importantly she's a girl who loves spontaneity and knows how to have fun :) the new line will incorporate happier hues, more light-hearted designs and in overall have a more vivacious, fresher feel that we think would appeal to our younger customers.

      hope that sufficed :)

one thing you love about your parents? :)

there are many things i love about my parents.
but here's just one: i love that i know they'll always be there for me no matter how much i'm disappointed them or hurt them unintentionally, and though sometimes it feels like quite the opposite, i know that i'll be there for them too.
